Does anyone use a transmission temperature gauge in their tow vehicle? Is it worth it to get one installed? How pricey?

You can never have too much info IMHO. My tuner provides all my temps 4 at a time should I set it up that way and then on demand should one not be displayed. Most of todays vehicles only tell you when it's too late. If you are going to be in hot areas with hills you might want to invest in a three temp setup for ECT, TFT and EOT or, do a search for a tuner with your vehicle.

Not so much for the tuner but all the pluses that come with the tuner like the temp and diag. features. Most you can set alarms for certain personal temps that might be lower than factory settings.

I had an issue with my injector module that did not trip my check engine light but my tuner advised me of this before the truck did. I asked the tech to plug in the vehicle to check the codes. Sure enough I needed this module and it was repaired under my warranty before I was stuck on the side of the road. Most vehicles need a certain amount or specific codes to trip the light which might be too late IMHO.

Your towing get the gauge installed... you can get a good gauge for under $100.00 + install.

I use an Edge Insight CS monitor in a pod on my dash. It plugs into the OBD-II port on my truck and I drilled and tapped the exhaust manifold for true EGT readings. I can read almost every parameter of my truck with this setup.

I also use an Edge Insight. When towing you can NEVER have too much information. I don't know about the Nissan's, but the Ford dash gauges are really useless and it's critical to know not just TFT but EOT and ECT as well. Having a good OBDII type unit will ease installation, but you need to be sure that your vehicle supports those items.

A transmission gauge is good to have. You will get different readings depending on where the temp probe is located. If it is on the line going out of the transmission to the cooler it will read hotter and is the best info you can have. If it is in the transmission pan it will read cooler. Mine is in the pan and when it reaches 200* I shift down and back out of the throttle until it comes down.

I use a gauge called a "scangauge II" available online and at camping world. You can easily install and program it yourself. Just make sure it is compatible with your vehicle. About $150.00.

My 2003 F-350 V10 came with a factory trans temp gauge in the dash. It really is reassuring to see it vary slightly when towing uphill for a while, and then cooling back down. It has never gotten anywhere near the redline, so the cooler is doing its job. If you don't have some type of gauge, I highly recommend one for peace of mind.

I had one added to our old 96 F350. It was worth the $$. Seems like a couple hundred at the time.

I too, use the Edge Insight CTS for our Ford Powerstroke. It is quite pricey but it provides a wealth of information. Probably the best value for the dollar would be the Scangauge II, at around $150 it also provides a lot of information via the OBD II port.

If your Trans fluid runs over 175* you might want to consider changing the fluid at shorter intervals. I do mine every 30K miles.
