Travel Trailer Insurance

Does anyone have a suggestion for an insurance company for a new TT?

Our Jay Flight 32IBTS will arrive next week and I just got the VIN so I'm trying to line up insurance.

We had a 5th wheel a few years back that I just added to my auto insurance policy and it was ~$50 a year (Liberty Mutual). Now we have Farmers and they don't have that option. They sell TT insurance through Foremost and I'm getting quotes of $600 - $800. I know there are some fairly significant differences between auto add on and true RV insurance.

Has anyone used Foremost or Good Sam? Any other suggestions?

Thank you!

Congrats on the new TT! We purchased our 2015 Jayco Bungalow in August and had to go through Progressive as its our permanent residence. We pay $465 for the year. We have State Farm for our vehicles and found that alot of insurance companies don't cover TT's. Give Progressive a call and see what they quote you-worth atleast a phone call to inquire. Good luck in your search drk98.

I have GEICO on all my vehicles with full replacement value on the RV. Towing and roadside assitance as well. Your quote is inline with mine just make sure you give them the total number of days in service right. It's prorated so no having to take it off the road with them, some vary on this.

As I have said many times with this subject, always ask the coverage company "What if this happens?" There are several types of coverage and in todays world make sure you CYA. Specifically when your TV and TT are not hooked togehter and in a CG.

Storage locations also play into premiums where mine is on my property.

Congrats and good luck!

We've had Foremost for 28 years now. It came recommended by our Allstate Agent, who himself was an RVer. When we got our new trailer last year, the dealer offered several options (incl Progressive), but none were better.

I've had Progressive on my last three TTs. I have full replacement value regardless of age of trailer, $500 deductible with a total cost of $313 per year for a 2015 Jayco Eagle.

I have state farm. I like them, premium is low, and I am also covered by my umbrella policy. Ask a lot of questions. A coworker a few years ago went with an RV only policy on their new TT, instead of their car insurance company. That spring they had a 100 year super storm (20” rain in just a few hours) the CG flooded, and the trailer was totaled. The RV insurer did not cover it as they needed a special flood insurance rider that they did not know about. After that I called my agent and asked a lot of questions and found I am covered under any and all scenarios you could think of.

My wife just got a quote for our pending new Jayco. $136/year with $500 deductible... but because we have our house and 2 cars in the same bundle, our total insurance for the year actually will DROP by $139 after we add the RV...

Ours is with State Farm as well. Maybe a few bucks cheaper but in the same ball park.

We also added ours to our Allstate Policy. We have 2 vehicles and 2 homes. Was pretty inexpensive. Unsure of coverage, so now I'm going to call on Monday to to get more specifics!!

Guess I need to challenge my State Farm agent. My coverage with them is $296/year and has a $1000 deductible. No claims.

My DW works for State Farm, I have learned a thing or two about insurance. She has told me several things could affect premiums. Some of those things are past claims, your geographic location, how many policies you may have with your company (multi policy discounts), your age and or driving record to name a few. I was surprised to learn your credit rating has a big impact on what you pay for insurance premiums. Our premium of $189 drops as the TT gets older.

You are very correct that rates are dependent of many variables, including credit score in some states, but not all. in California for instance it is not legal to use credit scores with respect insurability and/or insurance pricing.

I became very interested in this over the past couple years as we went about eliminating all debt and credit from our life and know this is going to negatively impact FICO scores.

For the record we have Allied (Nationwide) for everything we own. Pay ~$280 on the TT policy, believe the deductible is $250 but could $500. Most important for us is the liability coverage, and having liability coverage at all time (hitched, camping, or while in storage) is very important to me -- I just have way to much to lose should someone get hurt playing on or around our TT. We are very satisfied.

$198 with $500 deductible per year with State Farm. Your liability coverage is provided by your truck policy.

Have been covered by State Farm for almost 50 years. Several claims, all taken care of quickly. No claims on the house or for bodily injury. DW has a wreckumup about every 5 years. Totaled her car about a year ago and has now hung up her licence.
Well...actually she no longer has anything to drive even thou she still has the licence.

Love her to death, but she won't be driving the Tundra, our only vehicle.
