trip planning software

Does anyone use a trip planning software to plan their vacations? We are planning a trip to the midwest with young kids and want to be sure we don't miss a thing! Do you use a great software or website? Do you have a suggestions on places to visit?

Thanks for your help!

Instead of using software you could try googling the Dept. of Tourism for each state you plan on visiting. There should be links to attractions, accommodations, restaurants, etc. Some are updated to show road construction/detours that software doesn't. For example here's Wisconsins: http://www.travelwisconsin.com/

I use Microsoft's streets and trips. you can tell it to search for attractions with in X miles of your route... and it is easy to have it change routes for you as well

We usually contact the Department of Tourism of the state we plan on visiting. They send a free guide and web site info. Then we check out RV Park Review web site to decide on a campground. I have an app on my smart phone that is called Places and I have it set for campgrounds. I also post questions on another RV forum site to inquire on the places we plan to visit and receive some good advice.
