TT Flipped Today....

A TT flipped on it's side around noon today here on Long Island. It's going to be a beautiful weekend and with Father's Day, the CG's are pretty much all booked. The TT flipped on basically the ONLY road leading to the Hamptons and traffic was backed up for miles.

My parents just left about 2 hours ago and are going to the CG where I would venture to guess this TT was heading too as well. They just passed the scene and all is normal again.

No word on what caused the accident but someone is saying it was a dad and two young boys and they all walked away from it.

I've helped put a few back on their axles after they've gone over (not mine, I'm a police officer). Never a pretty sight. Saw one last weekend on I-85NB just inside SC above GA. Makes you remeber to drive as safe as you can.

This same thing happened to a friend of mine. He said it took one big sway, then flipped on its side, and tool his truck over on its side too - right on the interstate. He thinks what happened in his case is one of the retaining pins on his Equalizer was either forgotten or not all the way in. He thinks that cost him to loose a bar, then it swayed one way, tried to come back the other and the bar stopped him. Not too sure if I ever thought that made sense, but he went Class A after that.

Wow. Another reason to never get in a hurry pulling any large heavy load. Too bad for the owner, and glad everyone was ok!

I've commented on the local news story website and the wife responded back with greetings for all the well wishers. She said that the hitch broke. Here's another pic.

Another thing to consider is that this happened right over a bridge for a canal. This could have been a lot worse is it went over the side!

Hitch broke? Wonder what part. I have seen a post on recalls of the ball distribution shank. Always good to know the exact part so we can check these things on our TT.

My Reese broke once too. Mine had a pair of serrated plates which adjust the tilt of the hitch. Going out of the driveway I heard a loud BANG, it was the plate stripping. Thankfully I was stopped, Reese provided all new parts free of charge. Snap-up brackets also fail sometimes.

I haven't heard back from the person about my question yet.
