Unexpected Camping Friends?

So have you ever pulled up to a camp and found out you were camping with someone you knew from work?

So I have a guy at the office that I work pretty closely with daily....he and I get along well, but have never done anything outside of work....

So today he asks me where we are going for spring break....low and behold we are going to the same place a few sites apart. This place is like 6 hours away - what are the chances?

My big deal with spring break is to get away from work!!! We vowed not to talk any work the entire week....but darn-it - I will be reminded of work all week long..lol....

(oh - and I DONT want to hear the I'M RETIRED, DONT HAVE THAT PROBLEM response lol....some of us still have to support your Social Security checks!!) :hihi:

Come camp with me and we`ll talk about crabs. And we`ll eat some. Not retired, may never be.

I've retired a few times but keep finding a new job that seems interesting. My other part-time job is to keep the DW and kids full of crabs and prawns.

ps there is a reason they call it fishing, not cartching.

cheers.

Next week will be one full year from being retired (although, like mentioned earlier, I found another gig) I often visit and travel with friends from my "pension job"; we agree for the first night - ONLY - we get to talk about work. Then after that, it is all about family and adventures...

Terry,

Here's one for you.....; A couple of years ago I worked part time selling large appliances, and had a customer come in numerous times "thinking" about purchasing an inexpensive washer. Well after four months, she decided to buy the cheapest washer for a family of five, which wasn't my recommendation for someone doing 2-4 loads a day, but she was adamant about what she wanted.

During the month following the purchase she became my "worst appliance nightmare" complaining about her purchase. I'll for-go the details.

Anyway, four months later I was camping in the Michigan UP 400 miles away from home...., you guessed it, the next day my "worst appliance nightmare" with her family of five was setting up their PUP on the campsite right next to me!

Long story short, I crossed paths with her husband at the CG pavilion and all he said to me was "Don't worry about it Bob, I camp with her year round".

True story.

Bob

Never camped with 'em but I have ran into a colleague in a far away town before. Kinda weird walking down the sidewalk in Mackinac City and see someone you know.

Bob,

I think the only thing that could have made that situation worse would have been for her to bring the washer with her! LOL

We were at a cg near Mt Rushmore SD in our little Casita about 4 summers ago. As we were setting up to BBQ, a tent trailer pullled in. They had a Cali plate, so at some point the topic of "where about in Cali" came up. They said off the central coast.... oh where.... a little place north of... really? Us too, we're near... NO WAY... For reals? You live just down the street from Don's mom! And, the woman turns out to be a lady who works with my son's ex-wife's aunt (and of course we all know each others names as a result). The husband knows Don's uncle from work a few years back.

Oh, and thanks Fishy! We appreciate your contributions!

I try and avoid old classmates. Somtimes a whole year goes by and we don't see a single license plate from home.

A few years ago, before I bought my Eagle, I was renting a trailer at a camp site at Goderich, Ontario, on the shores of Lake Huron, about 3+ hours EAST of where I live. I noticed an Outback travel trailer that I liked. I spoke to the owner and he asked me to come in and see it. He told me he was very happy with it.

A few months later, I was at Darien Lake theme park, about 2.5 hours SOUTH, in New York State . I saw the exact same model of trailer so I thought I would ask the owner how he liked his.

I'll be darned - it was the same guy and same trailer!

What are the chances?

Crabman, I will take you up on the crabs.....and oysters ......and clams...and and and.
I was born and raised near St. Micheals on the Eastern Shore of MD. I am living in AZ now and miss the REAL seafood and the water.

And I would NEVER talk about work.

I SORTA feel your pain as I almost had this happen. Two years ago a co worker who is a fellow camper was going to get a seasonal site at the same place i camp. I felt EXACTLY like you. I had no problems with her, she was very nice, but I also was thinking...oi vey! I go camping to get away from work, if she is in the same area, will they come down to our site and talk about the job a lot?

Lucky for me, she and her spouse ended up choosing a different campground.

Not much help I am to ya, other than to say I know EXACTLY what you mean, and think I know pretty much how you are feeling right now.

YES!! My 2nd time out camping I pulled into the site and it was dark. I was NOT getting that RV in that site. This woman tells me her husband would back it in ifI wanted him too (well, yea). I jump out of the truck and the woman is in a t shirt, shorts, no makeup and it happens to be a lady from work!! She is always dressed to the 9's and professional....didn't even recognize her.
We were campsite neighbors all weekend and never talked about work. It was great.
What are the chances~

I never have a problem running into co-workers where I camp... it is just too far from bars for them...
