After sending the new pics to the dealer...they're thought is the same. They'll be contacting me as soon as they get word on what Jayco wants to do. They've seen 3 others with the side wall cracking and all 3 went back to the plant...so I guess we'll see.
I already have a post on their facebook page stating the previous issue, but I'll wait to see what the dealer comes back with before I post my "flame".
In short...the dealer agrees. Replace both walls for now as the option of unit replacement hasn't been discussed as of yet. That will be discussed on Sept 13th...

If that meeting or the options don't go good...expect a new updated post on their Facebook page. Social Media can be a powerfull thing.

Wow those cracks are ugly. It looks almost like drywall cracks in a house that has settled. I wish you fast resolution to this matter.

As long as the root cause is identified, I wouldn't be afraid of having the wall structures replaced. A couple of years ago I had my entry sidewall, rear wall, and roof structure replaced for a different reason, but I was very pleased with the outcome.

Actually, my RV dealership did the total repair but they had experience (very important) in RV wall replacements. I had the option to send it to back to the factory, but I had a lot of confidence in my RV dealership. It also gave me the opportunity to watch the repair process.

The end result IMO was better than when it came off the production line.

Wow. One of the reasons I lean toward Jayco is its reputation for stepping up and taking care of customers. If it doesn't step up on something like this, then I don't really see that Jayco holds any advantage for me over many other brands.

Well...here's my update. And I'm glad to say its good.

Spoke with the owner and GM at my dealer and the unit is going back to the factory for wall replacement...duh...it's now structural.

Honestly, I don't think they had a choice since this is the second unit they've had that had to go back. so I think some re-engineering is in order.

So maybe...just maybe I have my faith back in Jayco...
I guess we'll see when we get it back...

Thank you all for your comments and concerns...this is one AWESOME site!!!
I will add ideas and such as I see them because well...I seem to be spending alot of time here...

Oh...forgot to add this. Based on Rustic Eagle's (Bob's) comments...I have faith in my dealer as well. They just out right told me...we can't do it and I was happy with that.
I'm pretty sure all will be fine.
(I guess I can update my post on Jayco's "facebook" site...hehe)
Take care guys...and gal's...

Tim

Good news indeed. Perhaps they will fix it this Fall and get you ready to go soon as possible.

Geez, as we are seriously looking at this model, I hope this isn't a common problem with it.

I was wondering if there were any updates on the repair of your unit. We are picking up our 2012 298RES on Saturday so we have a bit more than a passing interest in this topic.

If it has been back to the factory, did they let you know if they found anything specific as to the reason for the failure?

Jayco warranty. In Sept we were in a Jayco dealership for some small warranty items and I mentioned that the brakes were really crappy. They pulled the drums and 3 of the 5 were full of grease. The trailer only had about 1500 miles on it at the time and I didn't grease the bearings. (don't trust the Dexter ez lube thing) We were traveling at the time and the dealer wouldn't fix it without either payment or an OK by Jayco. We paid for the repair so we could be on our way. A week later we called and were informed that Jayco ok'ed the repair and they would credit our credit card when they received payment. It is now the middle of January and we just heard that payment was expected on the 17th. I will check our account on the 21st and see if we have a credit. I will post the results. Complete replacement of brakes is well over $1100. Four months is quite a wait for something that was approved of in Sept.

Agreed, it should not have taken that long to get reimbursed. I wonder if dealers have to wait that long for their money from manufacturers?

Is it possible the dealer has the money from Jayco and just hasn't credited your card yet?

We had a similar issue with our RKS29.5 this past August. The grease got past the seals and contaminated the brakes on the left side and was just starting on the right side. Like you, we only had 1400 miles on the trailer. ( that includes est. 650mi from the factory to the dealer ) Without going into all the gory details we used a mobile RV repair and submitted the charges to Jayco. We received the check from Jayco on 12/17/12. We are very happy with Jayco trailer ( 1st one ), the dealer and the way the factory handled our problem. With the volume of paper work Jayco does I do not feel 4 months is such a long time. As was explained to us by the customer rep @ Jayco, they batch print checks once a month. If your approval is finalized after printing you go into the next months print cycle. The company I retired from did the same thing. ( Keep the money in the bank for another 30 days ) If you call Jayco customer service @ 1-800-283-8267 ( we spoke to Tom / Donna ) with the last 8 digits of your serial number they can tell you the status of your claim. Donna & Tom treated us with complete respect and were friendly. I hope it works out for you and keep us informed.

If I sound pro Jayco, I am so far.
Dwight

First i want to ammend my post to 3 out of 4 brakes were contaminated. I really don't know where the 5th wheel came from. I am sure the dealer would have been burning up the phone line if the money was owed to them.

A friend with a motor home said he had problems getting the dealer to even do warranty work because the company (Gulf Stream) was so slow to pay.

At any rate I will check on our bank card balance on the 21st and see how things look. When the first 30 days went by we paid off the card to avoid intrest at a high rate. After 4 months it would have amounted to quite a bit.

I like our Jayco but 4 months is total BS in my book. We didn't make anyone wait to get their money when we bought it.

On those fiber glass cracks, did the RV dealer say the others they sent back to the factory were ultra light TTs, all the same model? If it goes back to the factory I suspect they will solve the problem by strengthening the walls in those areas. The end result may be better. My Jay Flight 19RD has aluminum siding. They can cover all those problems and most will never be seen. Probably still there but I'll never notice.

UPDATE> The Idaho dealer called today and said they were crediting our credit card for the money owed. I checked the card on line today and didn't see any credit yet. Maybe tomorrow.
