warranty on new electric awning
I am having an electric awning installed and wonder should I buy the 3 year warranty that CW offered.... I wasn't going to but after some previous posts I'm thinking it might be a good idea... thanks for any advice.

You don't mention the factory warranty or the cost of the CW extended, but my rule of thumb is never to buy one of these things. When they first came out, at least when I first encountered them, in the 70's, they were cheap. Now they are at least 10%, often more, on most things, less of a percentage but thousands on automobiles, where, of course, they usually wiggle out of paying for any problem you actually have. Think about it. Ten percent kick on everything you buy. How many things do you own that failed where you wish you had pruchased one? For me, only one things, constantly. And I DO buy warranties on them usually. Vacuum cleaners. So unless you are exceptionally unlucky with your pruchases, refusing them for a couple years saves enough money to enable you to repair or replace a failed item with just a portion of the $$ you've saved. I think it's a sucker's bet. Just my bias.

I have never liked extended warranties. They always seem to be way over priced.

Most of that stuff has a 1 year warranty. Most credit cards double the warranty - so you are basically paying for year 3 only....I just can't make the numbers work to make it worth it....

A lot, but not all will double the warranty. I buy bigger ticket items with that card. They have fixed or replaced my truck tool box, Dvd players, GPS, netflix player, etc...It is a really good perk to take advantage of.

Those that do double the warranty usually have a cap on the length of time added, typically a year.

I bought an extended warranty from CW when I had to make a claim they could not find the paper work... even showing my bill for it did not help.. My sympathies on the electric awning if it is a Carefree of Colorado one ... they are HOS... and Carefree is a major pain to deal with...

Has anyone purchased a replacement motor for their Carefree awning? Mine has bit the dust. Looks easy to change. Will Carefree sell direct?

Save your headaches & the extended warranty money...buy a manual awning. Proven design, been around almost forever, works during a power failure, tiltable for water runoff, most have detachable struts for "carport" style setup.
