Weight on the slides?
I have a question about putting weight on the slides when they are in. Our TT is designed so we could actually use it with both slides in if needed. Just not sure if we should. Is it okay to walk, sit, sleep on a slide when it is in the 'in' position?? |Thanks!

I have never had a problem. We do avoid stepping on the edge.

I never gave it any thought. Why would you not put weight on the slide. I fabracated a 2x4 cut at an angle to match the edge of the slide to protect the edge from being stepped on and damaged. It just slides under the edge.

I would think there would be no problem cause if motorhomes are traveling down the road people are sitting and seat belted into the slides with no issue

I was told to not walk on the slides when in the in position. I believe I read here that the reason for this is the slide out floor is only attached to the slide out side walls and has no support when they are in.???

I found in the Keystone RV forum that the manuals say not to walk on them. Would Jayco's be a different set up?

When closed the edge is just unsupported plywood. It flexes and could be damaged by a heavy concentration of weight in one spot like a big fat foot.

norty1 is correct. Look at the very edge of the slide floor. It tapers to a very thin unsupported piece of wood. When or if one was to place weight on the very edge, it could break off. This could cause a problem with trying to close the slide from the open position. The taper assists the slide to slide up and over the stationary floor. As I stated before, to be safe, I ripped a 2X4 to the same angle as the taper, thus, when closed, I place the 2X4 under the edge. Hence, the very edge has support should it get stepped on.

Our trailer has the pantry, range, microwave, refrigerator and sofa on the same slide. That is a lot of weight so we do walk, sit on the chairs and recliners on the opposite slide when it's in. The weight of one or two people is nothing compared to the weight on the other side. We do avoid the edges. We also sleep with the bedroom slide in if we are spending a night at a rest area or truck stop.
