Weight Stations
With the upcoming camping season getting closer the thought had crossed my mind if campers need to stop at weight stations. I am thinking no but what are your thoughts

As far as I know, in California the CHP Weight Stations are only mandatory for commercial vehicles. MH or TV-5er/TT combos aren't required to stop. However a LEO can instruct any vehicle on the scales if he has reasonable cause to do so.

In Texas only commercial vehicles get stopped at Weigh Stations.
Now a Check Point is an other matter.
You'll get secondaried and have a dog run around sniffing everything but as long as your not carrying dope or aliens you'll have no problems.

Not required to stop at weigh stations unless you have a DOT# on the side of your vehicle. That's my understanding anyway.

As the others have said only if you are commercial. Although I've heard California has some strange rules....

Normally commercial vehicles only. I usually just keep on truck'n... I guess they will run you down if they wanted you to stop haha... I have seen large rigs in these places from time to time however... I have gone down to our local weigh station and weighed my setup just to get an idea how my weight is distributed. Here in Virginia we have to pull off at the I64 tunnel heading down to Virginia Beach to have our propane tanks valves inspected to make sure they are turned off before going under the Chesapeake Bay.

Most state operated weigh stations are pre-posted- The sign says " ALL RVs are exempt" and if you do pull in, they will wave you on or possibly come out of the station and give you a tongue lashing- Don't ask me how I know- JMHO- DD
