Portable? There isn't one. If someone would make one I would buy it.

If you want HD TV from a portable, automatic dish, then the Dish Network Tailgater is really your only choice.

When we were shopping for a new service for both our home and our camper last year, this is one of the things that tipped us in favor of Dish over DirecTV.

The only thing that's automatic for DirecTV is one of those very expensive rooftop dishes. Unless you want to spend the 2 grand (or whatever it is) for one of those, you'll be stuck manually adjusting your dish every time.

I went with dish network tailgater with month to month service, 449 for all the hardware including the box and 49-89 a month for programming, by the month and the equipment is all mine.

I guess that could be considered "roughing it".

Having to go without HD. LOL

We had the Tailgater for 3 years then it took a dump. Got a new Winegard pathfinder 2. To me it is 100% better than the tailgater. Some of the people I know bought the tailgater around the same time and all of them are broke now. I hopw that they have made the tailgater better.

old non-working tailgater

What did you do with the non-working tailgater, did you take it apart and see what broke?

I'll be using it there too. The wife gets really grumpy if she misses her football games. it would be a shame to not have HD on a HD tv.

My understanding is that DirecTV has to source multiple satellites for all of the HD channels, and that isn't possible with a device like the tailgater, or something like that.

By having my 211k DISH receiver (used with the tailgater) tied to my home account (it is the sixth TV on that account), I only have to pay $7 per month for the service, and it is always available.

ATT u-verse here, inet, home phone, cell phone and cable tv in one package. 20 gig that rolls over so we watch netflix on a blueray player using the cell phone as a data link while on the road camping.

yes sure did, all I can say is it looses tracking. Called and talked to a tech and they want me to send it to them and they didn't want to give me any info about what could be wrong, but they did give me a estimate to get it fixed which I thought was kind of funny. But we still have it in the shed.

The only difference in setting up the tailgater and winegard is the winegard has a couple of more steps.

I don't see the word portable anywhere in your question so I am going with a roof top RV answer.... I like my RF Mogul EAGLE antenna.. stationary auto aim upgradable.. and easy to switch if you change providers..
