What did you buy first?

Did you buy your Jayco based on the towing vehicle you had, or did you buy your towing vehicle based on the Jayco you had? As you can see from my signature, I bought the Jayco first.

I already had the truck and traded a 31' fifth wheel for a 38 1/2' one.

I see you are in Charleston. Daughter and son-in-law graduated from College of Charleston. Love that area of SC.

I've always bought based on the truck. However, our trailer stays at our house, so we have to tow it. I'm now, for the first time, looking at doing the reverse. I've already ordered and put money on a new trailer, but my truck is 10 yrs old. Still runs well, just lots of little things like switches and such starting to fail. So, I'm keeping an eye out for a good deal on something newer. I think it's easier to buy the TT based on the TV as there are many more options. When you're already committed to a TT, you're much more limited, especially with the heavier trailers. I was hoping to get an Ecoboost, but I don't think it has the payload to handle the tongue weight of the trailer, so I'm probably going to have to keep making the oil companies richer with a 3/4 ton as my everyday driver.

We bought the truck 6 months before ordering our rig knowing that it would be heavy.

We had a 1996 26 Ft Sunnybrook TT we pulled with a a 2003 GMC 1500HD 6.0L
Then we bought a 2005 Jayco Eagle 5th Wheel, the GMC 1500HD pulled it ok but if worked hard so we moved up to a 2007 Chevy 2500HD Duramax.
The 2007 Chevy 2500HD pulled our Eagle 5th Wheel great, but when we bought our Jayco Pinnacle we bought more trailer than we had truck.
So so now we have a 2012 GMC 3500HD DRW Duramax for our Pinnacle.

I bought my TV in anticipation of eventually buying the 5er, which I bought a couple years later........The DW wanted a pop-up but I bought the heavier (and more expensive) 5er to justify all the Duramax power I had under the hood. The DW didn't buy that story, though.

We bought the truck first and then married up the RV to it. Of course we pretty much knew the trailer we wanted.
So far we are on our third new Jayco and still driving and towing with the original truck.

We always have a truck so the truck came first. When we bought this truck we did change to a one ton from a three quarter ton.

Truck first then trailer. Our 70 International Travelall just didn't have the oomph to get out of its own way never mind pulling something this big. No regrets

I had the truck first, never thought about a TT until this year. We went to the early rv show and liked the layout of the trailer so much, we bought ours foe great dal. We ad orinally thought about a C lass motor home but it made more sense to buy a TT

Yes we live on James Island near James Island County Park. We are camping at the Oak Plantation this weekend with our camping club. It is about 12 miles away from home. Many good sites locally if you like old stuff and Civil/ Revolutionary/ Military history. Also eating . LOL

Makes sense to start out with the dream truck cause it will save you in the long run. Everyone wants a little more room eventually and if you already have the towing capacity it is cost effective IMO.

What a silly thread. EVERYBODY knows you buy the truck first. Then, you buy a trailer which is too heavy so you have to trade in your otherwise perfectly good truck for a new one! Lol

I had long range planning and bought my truck 5 years ago with the intentions of purchasing a camper shortly after the truck was paid for, the 5th wheel was purchased about two months ago.

I bought a 23 year old Winnebago Brave first because I couldn't afford to buy both a trailer and a suitable tow vehicle for the whole family. In two years I moved up to a 9 year old Flair MH, again for less money than buying a tow vehicle and trailer.

I bought my current, used, tow vehicle 4 years before I made the planned switch from a motorhome to a trailer. When we bought the little 17Z we shopped the Jayco line from 28' and down.

This statement is almost what we did. We found the TT we wanted then shopped for the truck and purchased a 2010 Toyota Tundra Crewman 4x4 because it was within its towing capacity in Aug. Then purchased the TT in Sept. and a yr and a half later traded the truck in for a 3/4 ton and now my DH is a happy camper. Not changing TV now.

We had our truck first, with no real intention to buy an Rv because we had the use of 64 acres and year round cabin just and hour and a half away. Then my father in law decided to sell and I wasn't going to pay his price for the place... not worth what he was asking in my opinion. So we decided we would look again at travel trailers that we could tow, which really limited our choices. We found the style we liked and then we found our Jayco 228 and jumped in with both feet.

Somewhere along the line, my wife wanted a fiver that our tv couldn't handle- So we bought the fiver and agreed during the initial tow to find a tv that could do the job- The next day we found what we needed in a tv- That was our first diesel and she served us well for 287k miles- As fulltimers for 13 plus years, we can testify to the need for an adequate tv- JMHO- DD
