Actually, it was "Old Betsy", at least in the Disney version way back in the day.

Actually computers is where I really got a start on this anthropomorphism thing. Up until Windows 7, the install program for a new computer would ask you for a name, while suggesting something totally forgettable like "BRZ6842KZY". I am currently typing on Roger_Rabbit, although previous incarnations have been Socrates, Darwin, Einstein, and Lilli (Lilliputian) to start.
As a computer engineer, I have named many, many computers. And a good naming convention is essential for networks with many nodes as having everything appear as "computer" or "server" on the network gets confusing quickly.

I do the same thing. I was a network manager for a mid-sized company for 26 years and was pretty creative with the naming conventions.
Even my home computer is named C.H.I.P.P. (Customized HIgh Powered Processor)

I would name him "Jake" for obvious reasons....plus he is insured through State Farm. In reality, we'll likely just refer to him as "the camper".

I understand the need to name "things" for identification, but, this is not the same as naming something personal, especially when it's the only "thing" you have...ie an RV. Naming programs for work, in my opinion, is not the same as naming a personal car or rv or any other "thing". I have no issue if someone wants to name anything, but personally I never felt the need to personalize my rv, my car, my truck or even my Harley. As I said before, I don't "love" things... I love people, animals or other things that can also love me back. I like my house, but, it's just wood and stucco and other inanimate "things", not deserving of "love" in my opinion. I've had a number of houses I liked, but, when the decision was made to move, I never mourned a house. I may miss some particular traits a house or other item may have, but, not as I would miss or mourn a person or animal or something I actually did love.
Just trying to understand the desire or need to make a "thing" as personalized as a living soul.... I have found names at times to be cute, and or endearing, I just never found the desire or need to name a "thing".
Perhaps I'm too logical and not whimsical enough...if I had hair guess I would need to let it down

Mine dont have "names" per se, but do have nicknames...
RV goes by "The Seneca" and have of recently we laugh and call it "Trush" as my 1 year old is now loving trucks and every time he sees the RV he points at it, his eyes open wide he he starts yelling "Trush, Trush" as his ck's have not developed yet.
Our Nissan 3500 NV Passenger Van normally goes by "The Bus"
Everything else is just named what the manufacture named it...Expedition, Jeep, etc.

Sometimes there is a need for a name.
We own 3 Fords So if we are going somewhere My other half will ask what vehicle are we taking If I answer the Ford I get more questions. Or if I answer the Expedition again I get more questions So to avoid the confusion the Fords have names Escape, Blue Expy or Red Expy
But the TT is still Jayco and the decals on it prove it

Don't have a name yet, just haven't gotten round to it. Love music so we've thought of things like "Free Bird", "Ramble On". My wife's middle name is Katherine so she's been Kat her whole life and I really like "Kat's Kamper" but so far it's just the camper and thank goodness for our mental health we have it!

For me it is just more interesting to use something different than the generic label. It's not about loving it. It's more about building a richer experience. Think of it like painting a house. Some people are happy with white walls. I'm just painting my world with words.
As a writer and literature teacher it's part of my DNA.
The views expressed may not be mine in five minutes.

It's called "fun" and "a sense of humor". Our RV is Koko, our Jeep is Toto, our GPS is Gloria. They're a team...To each his own! Maybe we're fools, but we name things just because.

If we get a camper it will be to replace the boat. Maybe we will name it "The Dry Dock."
