wheel chocks with an expiration date ????

Went in a while back to Walmart to get an extra pair of chocks for my car hauling trailer, and they had the Camco yellow ones. After getting them home, I noticed a molded-in "replace by 06 2016" statement.

Now wait a minute - in all my born days, and quite a few plastic wheel chocks, I have never seen any with an expiration date before. What in the world . . . . . Are they trying to tell me that these are made of something that will deteriorate over a specific time period - a sort of self destruct by June of 2016 ?

Maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned, but once made, I always considered a wheel chock to last more or less indefinitely, unless damaged. Emailed Camco on the subject, but got no response. Anyone out there care to comment on this ?

Just guessing here, but might be a UV thing...., many plastics over time don't do well with the sun hitting them.

Hmmmm could be a new poll opportunity for Crabby! LOL

Kiddin' aside... we have the Links Leveler (sp?) from WM. They do not have an expiration date, but they definitely are faded after three years of use. We use them mainly to level and/or block the tires on "level" ground

No surprise. Yellow plastic rope definitely goes bad after being in the sun for a while.
