Earlier this year we camped at a state park in PA. While we were there they had a problem with their well pump which was right across the road from our campsite. The Ranger told us the water is tested for purity once a month during the camping season. They don't test it in the off season as they drain their system to prevent freezing problems.

We are on a well at home and don't drink that water either. It is so hard it will destroy a coffeemaker in a week - no telling what it would do to your innards.

We have several 3 gal bottles we refill at WallyWorld every 2-3 weeks. I take one of those along on our travels.

We drink bottled water mainly cause it is convenient to keep cold in the refer.

We stopped drinking water cause out last house had REALLY hard well water. Bad enough that when softened the salt content was too high to drink on a regular basis (tasted a bit like seawater). Good for cooking though

We do filter water for the RV since we've come across a few sites than have sand in the water (common for wells). Don't like that stuff getting in the water pump or water heater.

I guess I'm lucky. My well water at home is great. We still have the original AO Smith oil fired hot water heater from 85 when the house was built. All I use is a 50 micron sediment filter.
That being said, we still use bottled water in the camper for convenience but do use the RV water for cooking as any source at campgrounds we go to locally have the same great well water.

I take bottled water. I know someone who travels with a Brita, and someone who uses a Berkey. I would trust the Berkey more.

I didn't participate in this poll because it does not include the campground water supply. We use that for drinking if it does not taste bad. Otherwise we use it for everything but drinking. Bottled water is always on board.

Neither poll answer applies. We fill one or two 7 gallon water cans (depending on the length of the planned trip - we can easily do 5 nights on one can) at home before we leave and use that for drinking water.

Unlike norty1, I did participate because I assumed (dang! Shouldn't do that) the The onboard holding tank selection implied filling the RV fresh water tank from the campground water. We thoroughly filter the CG water and use it to fill our onboard water tank and use that water for everything.

Bottled water, the typical individual size found in a case of 24 or 30 or something like that. At only .10 or .12 each it's much easier to keep a bunch in the fridge or outside in a cooler and everyone can help themselves, easier to pass out, no cups needed. If it's just a couple by themselves I can see using the larger gallon containers previously mentioned.
Our State Park CG water is fine, perhaps a bit discolored when not used. We use it for dishes, showering etc....
I'm sure if we'd use it exclusively we'd be just fine, but since we always have family and friends over when camping the individual bottles are much more convienant.

Our well water from home.
Its safe. Poland Spring sells it to you in little plastic bottles to waste your money..
Bottled water is no advantage.. Possibly you assume it comes from a special place.

We use the bottles for convenience rather than out of concern. I filter the water that we use in the system and we use it for all of our other water needs.

We have a whole house filter mounted inside on the fresh water intake and everything coming in is filtered. Even with that, if it does not taste good, I won't drink it.

Gosh, between this thread and the earlier thread regarding “disgusting things” I’m beginning to think camping is just too dangerous for me.

This thread is like to topics: Which is better Ford or Chevy? Which is better ST tires or LT tires? LP Pilots on or off while traveling? Gloves or no-gloves while at the dump station. Now CG water or bottled? Is added to that list. These topics have as many opinions as there are members on the forum with no correct answer.

Has anyone ever thought about just going camping and having fun without the worry.

As far as the water issue, I’ve heard that some people drink the stuff. I thought WATER was for washing and BEER was for drinking! END OF SUBJECT!

LOL. If I want to drink water I'll buy Coors. If I want to drink beer then there are lots of good craft ones available. We use the onboard fresh for showering/washing & fill 1g jugs at the grocery store when we are in AZ or CA. I refuse to buy the small bottles and pay the 10c/ea deposit CA wants when they make it as hard as possible to return them for refund.

Sure . In our RV travels we camp about ten days each trip. I don't think of RV'ing as camping. Camping to me is a tent without vehicle access unless its a canoe.

Gosh, Another whole thread topic....Is what we do "Camping" or "RV'ing"? Again, a topic with as many opinions as members on the forum.

It is a mixed bag for us. I prefer to use bottled water for my coffee but use onboard water for cooking and of course the ice maker gets city or tank depending on where parked.
