Which satellite system to buy for TT

This is our first trip in our new Flight 22FB. We've been out for 4 weeks and having a great time. Noticed at campsites many have satellite dishes sitting on the ground or tripod with cable to their exterior plug.

Is this setup a normal dish with monthly service that one carries in the TT or is there a special purchase/setup available for RV/TT?

What is the preferred provider to use?

Just use your home sat system and carry the box out to your Rig and order a spare dish ... then its just what company has the packages and prices you want.

We have Direct TV at home and Don just ordered another receiver that is non-HD to work with our non-hd Jayco provided dish. It works ok, but I wish I could record. We have on our "To-do" list to call and see if we can use our HD DVR recorder from home with our regular Jayco provided non-hd dish.... Does anyone know about that?

Also, I started another thread regarding Dish TV or Direct TV; which do members prefer and why. One thing that popped up was that Direct TV is easier to set-up their dish in order to acquire the sattelite signal. I think the consensus was that the packages and prices were comprable

We have three Dish receivers. One is an SD DVR. That's the one we take with us. I purchased a dish and tripod with 50' of cable for a hundred bucks that would work with our standard DVR. You have to check with Dish CS to see what dish you need to go with a particular receiver model. Be a bit careful. One of their CS persons told me we're not supposed to move them around. To heck with that. And the one we do move is not a lease, we own it. Oh yeah, we don't get our local stations when we're out of the area, but who watches them anyway these days, 'cept for sports. Got to say, it used to be point and shoot as far as lining up. But it's a real booger today. I'm going to say here that Dish, with all its flaws, is better than Direct hardware wise. I'll go to that Dish/Direct thread for more. AND WHAT JAYCO PROVIDED DISH?? Never heard of that before. Guess it's optional.

We don't get the local channels that we do at home either.

When we ordered our tt, we paid ($99?) for the satelite set-up which came with the tri-pod, dish, and cable. We had to provide the receiver

Also, you have three.... can you offer your experience alligning Dish and Direct Tv? Do they seem equally easy/difficult to align azimuth/etc? Thanks

Our trailer came with signal finder,dish,tripod cables an we use our HD DVR with no problems at all anywhere.Never spend more than 10mins to set up an can record just like home an still no extra charge like dish network does. I have even used my remote from out side .

How ironic that right after I posted the above, we saw a Direct TV tech drive past the tt (I don't think I have ever seen a Sattelite provider in a cg before LOL). We stopped and asked him questions. Apparently we can use our HD DVR receiver with the regular non-hd dish, and he said we should be able to record shows

For my Jayco Jay Feather 24T I ordered a dish network package. A dish 1000.2, stand and 211 reciever all in a package. Actually it was from www.dishformyrv.com. Good RV package. I set it up at home to insure that while on the road, I could manage the package and my wife could watch her favorites. After a brief learning experience, it is working as advertized. I recieve all the locals in HD and all others in the package I ordered. To enhance dish alignment, I bought a "Align-A-Site with mount. After a little practice, I can align a dish very quickly and fine tune it with ease. I am a happy camper.

I have a friend that has a unique receiver. Quick easy set-up and he guarantees it to get max reception first time every time regardless of direction you point the dish. In fact, you do not need a compass, level or zip code or any other technical gadget to set it up and get it quickly working to its fullest capacity. A fantastic design and the LNB’s are readily available in a variety of colors.
