Why don't they??

Why don't RVs have hard cover roofs?
What is the advantage to the owner of the vinyl/plastic/rubber EPDM roofing material as opposed to a solid cover?

Oh how I wish they did though. The rubber roof makes me nervous; it would be nice to have something a bit more substantial up there I think.

But then it would be a bigger job adding my 2nd AC

Jayco must have changed roofing material after 2014. Our Greyhawk has the rubber TPO roof.

They flex a bit too, which is nice when you hit a pot hole on I-70. I can see a few benefits other than cost / weight.

I guess we could put shingles on the roof and join the tiny house movement

Sprayed on truck box liner.. it does flex some and requires no ongoing maintenance.. If I was building RV's it is what I would go with

Except it would add 24hrs or more to the production of each unit since it would have to cure before adding a/c unit, roof vents antenna etc.

nambarc uses tarpaper for his RV roofing needs. He said it works well, is lightweight and cheap.

That is assuming (hate that word), Jayco would spray prior to installing the AC.... and not after. How many buyers go up and look at the roof before they buy.. probably only a hand full of us.

One manufacturer put the spray on product on their rv's. Excel, I think. It was not satisfactory and was changed quickly back to the old method.

Let me get this straight. Jayco Grayhawk models have a fiberglass roof except for the 2016 model?

If that is the case that must one of the reasons why the older units keep their value.

No, 2016 and 17 have a fiberglass roof earlier models didn't. SENECAS had them from the beginning.

A coworker had a sprayed on roof done a couple years ago after having a roof leak. I have not spoke to him about it for a while. I know for that first year he absolutely loved it. I'll be sitting near him again in a few weeks.

The rigid roof systems weigh more, and are less resistant to vertical impact (like hail) damage. Flexible roof systems weigh less, and are more resistant to vertical impact damage, but less resistant to oblique impact (such as tree limbs).

Both require the same amount of maintenance, and with proper care, last about the same amount of time.

Take your pick.
