Wide Stance Axles Only On White Hawks. Why?

If these things are supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, why are they only offered on the White Hawks?

Don`t know. What are the supposed advantages over conventional axles?

The advantage is supposed to be more stable towing due to the wider spacing of the axles / tires.

Some other manufacturers use them on their smaller, lighter weight Travel Trailers.

Guess they put them on the lighter trailers because they are typically pulled by smaller, lighter weight tow vehicles.

Not sure if there is a problem using the "Wide Stance Axles" on larger / heaver trailers having engineering issues or would cause other problems.

We have had a couple car trailers with that setup. They pull great but you do have a little more tire scrub wear on the rear set of tires.

Alan,

That may be the reason they do no put the "Wide Stance" axles on the heaver trailers, my take is more tire scrub = more stress on the axle mounts and trailer frame.

When you go to a heaver trailer the tires do not scrub / slide as easy due to the weight on the tires and the heaver tire sidewalls on the heaver trailers.

You guys may be right. LaCrosse trailers have had them for a few years now. LaCrosse says it gives a better ride because no two same side tires hit a hole at the same time so one tire recovers before the second one hits??.
At first I thought it was to take some of the load off the hitch but then they could just mount the axles forward a little more to accomplish that. The discontinued Eagle 330RLTS trailer had a 1400# hitch weight that required a heavy duty truck to pull it.
Tire scrub I could understand but then trailer tires are designed for side forces (twisting).
Guess I don't know???

I think they can only put them on the lighter weight trailers. I know on the semi's a set of duals can legally be loaded to carry 34,000 lbs but if you have sliding tandems and slide the front axle forward seperatly the axles can only legally carry 12,000 lbs apiece.

I queried Jayco on why only the Whitehawks have these wider spaced axles. The reply from Judy at Jayco was:

"The Whitehawk has our "Tracker Axles" feature. Wider axles distribute the weight of the trailer more evenly, and provide a more smooth towing experience."

She did not address the issue of why other lines do not have these wide spaced axles, as I had asked for. Oh well, I tried.

I wonder if everyone who answers questions at Jayco is named Judy. It seems to be the only name you hear of, and I've called Jayco twice and gotten her both times. Hmm??

Actually Judy works at the vistors office and after you get thru the operator Judy usually ends up getting the call. She norm, ally is good about getting answers. personally if it's an important question then I just call her on the phone.
Happy trails,
