Will Jayco Send Me Repalcement Speakers?

My brother got his 28DSBH out of state last September. At least one of the indoor speakers is not working properly. It sounds like it's blown. My local Jayco dealer will NOT honor any kind of warranty service becasue we've tried on a different trailer. They will only fix warranty stuff if you bought your camper from them.

I just emailed Jayco and told them this. I asked if it was possible for them to send me a replacement speaker and that I could swap the speakers myself. I told them our local dealer wouldn't honor the warranty.

Jayco's response to me was just a generic email about how any Jayco dealer should be able to fix the problem.

Any ideas?

AFAIK they are required to do Jayco warranty work even if you did not purchase it from them. My suggestion would be to call the dealer and ask them to schedule an appt to work on the speaker....if they turn you down then call (dont email) Jayco and speak to someone in person and explain the situation.

I am not sure what you mean that they won't do warranty work because you "tried on a different trailer."

Unfortunately, that's not true. RV dealer's will often refuse to do warranty work unless you bought from them.

We bought our 17z in September of 2011 at the Hershey show in PA. That's a 4 hour drive away. I looked under it when we got it home and noticed some wires hanging down, not connected to anything. On our first trip out, the shower backed up and we noticed that the water level meter was still showing empty for everything. When we got it home I did some research and the hanging wires I saw were the monitoring wires for the tanks. They were cut off so the meter never registered a reading.

We contacted our local Jayco dealer and they refused to look at the 17z since we didn't purchase from them. We did find another NON-Jayco dealer and they fixed our problem but that place has basically closed down.

Find a different Jayco dealer, they should not refuse to help you just because you didn't buy it there. They may put you at the back of the line, so to speak, but not outright refuse.
It's tough to get Jayco to send you anything directly, but a good dealer will help you out.

I too tried with a local dealer who didn't want to deal. I tried very hard, showed them them basic web pricing that was lower from a full service dealer 70 miles north. There response was buy there and that is where you will have to go for any warranty work. They did say they might do some, but would charge me retail rates and I could work with Jayco directly for reimbursement. Asked the dealer who I purchased from and he said its not right, but RV service isn't like Automobile and that it is what it is.

I suggest you call Jayco directly and ask for help. They may have another option for you. If the local dealer doesn't want your business I would not use Jayco to force it on them. You never know what else could magically go wrong.

Better yet, have you tried having the dealer where you purchased from order the speaker and ship directly to you?

I have read accounts on these forums where the selling dealer would send the item to the owner and let him install it in some cases. I would contact the selling dealer and see if they will work with you. A trip of any distance to get this done would be counter productive IMO because these speakers are so inexpensive to begin with. I`ve seen marine speakers on Amazon for 15-20 bucks a pair, and you can believe that these RV`s do not have high end speakers in them.

I would actually replace all of your speakers with better ones. You will be much happier in the end.

The dealer you bought from should send the replacement to your home. This is the way Terrytown handles their claims, I had a FR motorhome from them and they would send me the parts, I installed them. Everyone was happy.

Local dealers have an extremely hard time providing service to people that buy their trailers from places like rvdirect. They have higher overhead and need to make enough to stay in business. My local dealer gives decent prices on Jayco products and will bend over backwards to help out his customers. The guy who buys from RVdirect will go to the back of the line.

I've had really good luck by emailing Jayco with photos of the problem. They have sent me the repair parts.

I think it would be nice to hear what Jayco's policy is on this. In order for dealers to sell the Jayco brand I am sure dealers are required to follow certain policies and procedures. For instance if I buy my TT here in Michigan and I am vacationing in Arizonia. All Jayco dealers can refuse to work on any warranty work?

I asked my dealer about that when I bought my TT. He said their policy was people who are stranded, then their customers, then everyone else.

And that's fairly typical, but it sounds like in this case, the dealer is just flat out refusing to do anything. I guess they must have an excessive amount of business in order to turn down a potential new customer.

I called Jayco directly when we found our stereo had problems. They wanted me to go to the local dealer (40-ish miles 1 way). I argued that it was a minor issue, could they mail the replacement to me and I would install. The answer was "sure, if you are comfortable doing it". They even paid me back for shipping the defective unit back to them. I bought from RVDirect (a very pleasant experience). I visited the local dealer when we were shopping and didn't get a very warm feeling from them and rather expected some kind of push-back if I went there for warranty work. I would let Jayco know that you were flat turned down by the local folks and ask for them to ship the part direct to you.

I had a similar experience as some of the others here. We had a defective blind so I called Jayco and told them that my dealer was 300 miles away and I really didn't even want to take it to a local dealer because I could just simply replace it myself. Why would I want to let my RV sit at the dealer for 3 or more weeks waiting to just get a blind replaced was my thought. Anyhow, they were very accommodating and shipped a new blind to me. However, you must call because emailing does not get the same response. Good luck.

Doesn't Jayco reimburse a dealer for warranty work? I can understand being put at the back of the line if I hadn't purchased there, and can understand assisting a stranded person before fixing my issue, but outright refusal.....no way!

At a rate lower than walk in customers pay and much slower. Its often a month or more before they are paid for thier labor is what my dealer told me...which he said is significantly better than other Mfg.

I've never had Jayco ship me a replacement part directly, however, on more than 1 occasion RVD has had parts drop shipped directly from Jayco. If it's a minor part replacement, I would just as soon do the work myself anyway.
