Wind and rain and why I bought a camper

Heading out to the lake this weekend, but forecast has us 15 - 25 mph winds today and Sunday with a 70% chance of rain on Sunday.

We have canceled SO many camping trips due to weather over the years, but we are going to a new campground which is only about 20 miles away. It is side roads the whole way (45mph) so the wind doesn't bother me so much.. I figure Saturday night we'll just stay up until the wee hours of the morning and simply sleep in Sunday while the pitter pattter of rain hits our camper.. All of us will bring our supply of reading material and I'll turn on our WiFi hotspot so we can browse the internet..

So will Sunday be a bust??? Ehh.. We'll see... Sitting around the dining table playing a few rounds of spades with the kiddos, maybe teach them some poker and take their lunch money while the Keurig brews some coffee/ tea and the microwave pops another bag of popcorn..

Tex1961, That's what we did on New Year's weekend. Drove over to Hackberry to the Army Corp. campground on Lake Lewisville. 1st day was great...rained the rest of the time. But it all worked out and everyone had a great time! Enjoy!

By the way, where are you going?

And that's what it's all about! Trouble is that our non-camping friends just don't understand.

We never canceled any trip because of weather. Some of our most fun tenting trips were during rainy weekends. But the one thing that always scared me and still does is high winds.

In Seattle, if we waited for decent weather, we may never go camping.

Here, we call the first sunny day after three straight days of rain,"Monday"!

Yup the first time I woke up to it raining and almost freezing temps, my first thought was "those poor tent campers"

I still love putting on the backpack and hitting the trails with the kiddos, but man do I love having the trailer option now also!!

And we fondly remember camping in Yosemite with our Coleman tent-trailer watching those pitching their tents in the deceptively 'safe' swales. A HUGE afternoon thunderstorm came through and their tents floated down to the Merced River. We were high-n-dry and vowed to never again to be ground sleepers! Granted, we hated wet weather camping because the canvas sides had to fully dry-out before packing it away, hence our evolution to the TT. Only tough part now is a deluge while setting-up or breaking-down ~ but we got our ponchos for that!

Sounds like a great weekend! I was thinking this weekend it would be nice to pull our HTT out of storage, to get it ready. Nothing wrong with sitting around the table and playing a few rounds of cards.

As for wind, it does not bother me to much anymore. the worst riding out a very nasty wind storm that really rocked the trailer for 10 - 15 minutes.

Sorry for the delay in responding, was at the Walls Mart... getting supplies and have been loading up the TT..

We are heading to Lake Lavon (Clear Lake park). We usually go to Lake Ray Roberts, but didn't make reservations in time so we are trying someplace new. Full hookups, water, electric, sewer... Yaa..

My kids love it when it rains while camping. It means I stop nagging them to go outside and hike, bike, kayak, lol. We play games inside instead or read a book.

We have camped in two major thunderstorms with our TT and do not let the weather be a deterent. Our awning is very large and we have a large RV mat as well. If it is raining, I pull out our propane fire pit and set it up under the awning and watch the rain fall. We have full rain gear too for going on walks. We have the same weather that Seattle gets since we just across the border in Langley BC. If you know the Pacific Northwest, we can get quite a bit of rain.

We're back !!!

Had a great weekend, Saturday was absolutey beautiful. Had some friends stop by late in the evening and we had surf and turf with fried potatoe wedges, salad and garlic bread. They left around midnight and we picked up all of our gear and stowed it away, we turned out the lights around 1am and no sooner tha that the rains arrived. OMG... Talk about a sleep maker, nice light rain all night into about 10am. I don't think I've had a better night sleep. We laid in bed with our coffee until about noon. Outside was wet, but the rain was gone and since I had pretty much put everything away the night before it as pretty easy to get everything hooked up and on our way.
