Winter - roof vent - open or closed?

Hello,

I have a Maxx Air roof vent enclosure for the bathroom roof vent and was wondering what was better for outdoor winter storage:

I was thinking vent open would allow some air to move around.

Or I would close the vent and hang some moisture collection bags etc.

Your input will be appreciated.

Thanks

I open them. Nothing wrong having air flow. I use the moisture buckets as well. It may just be preference...idk.

Mine's been open for 2 years now with no ill effects. DW will close it sometimes while we're using it, but I make sure it's open for storage at least.

Some use Damp Rid but leaving the rig open to the outside humidity is a lost cause.

Our solution is closed up with a small dehumidifier but we have ours closed up with power on all the time.

Our vents both have MaXXair vent covers and stay open all the time. The MaXXair fans kick in automatically when the temp in the unit hits the set level (about 80 degrees). In the winter we leave 2 small ceramic heaters going so that the temp doesn't get below about 40 degrees.

Yeah, I guess that's true. I always thought air circulating would help dissipate moisture. I do know one thing, we'll find out next season! LOL!

Depends on the humidity of the outside air.

Yeah, no doubt. Knowing my luck, my trailer will be flooded with humidity moisture! LOL. Maybe I should close 'em. Hmmm

I agree, it might depend on your location. Here in Minnesota we are fairly dry. I leave our vent cracked (1/2”) all year. We too have a Max Air II cover.

I keep my trailer next to the house. In summer I leave the vents open. In winter they're closed but periodically I'll open them up for a couple hours to freshen the air inside.

Always open unless we are camping and it's particularly hot and humid. I discovered we get quite a bit of condensation in the bathroom (that's where the vent is) along the AC ducting pathway in the ceiling and lots of warm air pouring in through the vent. Always open in the storage lot.

Open year round. Let the materials breathe, otherwise moisture will work its way into or out of the trailer through the walls and insulation, leading to mold.

Open all year along with some Dri-zorb to eliminate moisture.

Here in Michigan I keep my roof vents closed during winter storage (have MaxxAir covers as well). I left one vent slightly opened one winter and found that moisture/snow could still work it's way in with the stronger winds.

I do however use DampRid.

Keep ours open year round and use Damp-rid bucket in storage. Also have a breathable TT cover in winter storage to keep heavy snow/wind out of the vent cover.

Just installed the MaxAir II on my Jayco TT 23MRB. It is stored outdoors, no power. Read through all the posts (thanks) I still have a question. Travel Trailer, covered, no power to it, should I leave the vent open or close it and put in some pods? There seems to be views on both sides but I am very respectful of those who know more than me. Thanks
