Wow... Forest River -new camper has issues...

So my family camped with some friends from my daughter's school who were taking out their brand new 27' Forest River Salem this past weekend. I think the only reason they wanted us to camp with them was for me to show him how to do EVERYTHING from setup to tear down (they only tent camped once-sheesh). Anyway, this camper was not at all in "new" shape. Major leak under the bathroom sink, awning strap totally ripped off when retracting the awning (have fun with that), and when I encouraged him to fill his black tank a little more b4 dumping, the tank began leaking(gushing) at a fitting where you can insert a hose to clean it. I had thought he pulled his low point drains or something for some reason...wow. Told him I would be majorly mad.
So...seems forest river has major issues, and they got it at a good price go figure. Kicker...the whole time he kept saying how he shouldve bought the jayco...ha.

I fit that bill as well. Last Oct. my DW and I purchased a 2011 Sportsman 35BH by KZ. What a POS. We traded that off at the end of this past May for our Current Jayco. I have a few small issues that will be resolved in the off season. Jayco FIRST no second thoughts later. This is my 2nd. Jayco. Our first was a 1994 22BH and had it forever.

I hope all goes well with your friend and his Salem. They have a one year warranty so they should camp as much as they can before it expires to get all the kinks worked with the dealer.

Jayco's 2 year warranty was one of the strong selling points for me!

To be fair, as with any high production RV manufacturer they can put out a stinker now and then. We hear about it here on this forum now and then too. OK that being said, he shoulda bought a Jayco!

I would put a lot of the blame on the dealer that sold the unit. Every manufacturer at time has issues. A good dealer stands in the gap between the manufacturer and buyer. The dealer is an important link in the QC chain. When I hear about a unit being delivered with numerous, serious problems it tells me the dealer didn't do their job.

My first RV is a KZ Spree Escape. It's been less than three months and only eight nights camping but so far no leaks, squeaks or other issues, and I attribute that to good quality on the part of KZ AND a very thorough inspection on the part of the dealer that ran every system, opened every door, flipped every switch and inspect top, all sides and bottom.

It's great having a warranty but it's even greater when you have no need to use it. Hopefully Forest River will make it right.

Me too! We will end up having 2 full winters in ours before the warranty runs out. I will go over it with a fine tooth comb prior to that warranty running out. We did have the outside refridgerator replaced under warranty already. It was pretty simple process.

Hello

We had a 23 ft. Flagstaff Super lite with a front bed. Poor quality. Leaked the day
we bought it and still could not find the leak after 4 years.. Would never buy a
Forest River product again.

I just wish we still had our old Montana instead of this Jayco with all it's problems. It would also be nice to have all the cash we paid to get it. We still like the floorplan but can't recommend much else.
