2004 23b owner

Hey guys/gals. My wife and I bought a 2004 Jayfeather EXP 23b camper.

We love the floor plan of it and just got back from a trip where we had a total of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids) comfortably sleep.

This was my first camper and I didn't know what to look for really when buying used - so I feel like I got took a little. After having it parked for a couple months I started noticing soft spots in the floors and a leaky roof now.

The first time camping I hooked it up to the water only to go inside after a few minutes and see the toilet shooting water out.

So - I've had a horrible start but taking the kids camping seems to make that all fade away.

Anyway - thought I would join this community to find tips and tricks to get a few years of life out of this thing before it falls apart on me. :-)

Glad you could join us! Sometimes it's tough to spot every detail when buying. We found a soft/rotting section of floor in the front storage compartment of a used pop up we bought, after a few weeks of camping. It happens to the best of us!

First Congratulations! We have a 2012 23B and absolutely love it. When buying a used camper it is hard to tell how it was maintained and what could be wrong with it, especially if you are a novice.

First thing you need to do, is check the roof. It is easy to do. The caulking tends to crack after a few years. So you need to go up on the roof and check all the seams, and recaulk as needed, this should be done twice a year.

Soft spots on the floor, may not be rot. Lots of people complain about soft spots even on brand new units, so you can do a little poking around under the unit with an ice pick and see how hard the wood is. I'm not sure how the floor is built on an 2004 model, but on our 2012, its a composite of two layers of wood with a foam sandwiched between.

As for the toilet, it might just be due to an improper winterizing and valve/pipe ruptured from water freezing.

Have fun with the family and enjoy your time with the kids while they are still young!
