First Time RV'rs with a new Jayflight 28RLS

Hi, We are Greg and Nancy. We are new to the RV lifestyle and loving it already. This past summer we rented one from Cruise America to test the waters. We have talked about it and decided the best way to find out what it's all about is to jump in and try it out. Well, we loved it. Our trip included stops in Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin (Oshkosh Airventure 2016), Michigan, Ste St Marie Ont., and Pennsylvania.

After our trip we started shopping, researching, and comparing. Finally decided the travel trailer, tow vehicle was the right choice for us. We purchased our new truck and then a week later got our Jayco Jayflight 28RLS new from Keystone RV in PA.

I have been looking at this forum for a while. And have found some VERY good advice, information, and how-to's. Not full-timers but I am retired and Nancy is a teacher, so we plan to do some traveling during the school off season.

Thanks to all that have helped us so far. We look forward to participating and sharing our travel adventures, experiences, and flubs with all.

Greg and Nancy

Welcome to the best Jayco owner's forums on the Internet and the wonderful pride of ownership.
We started our first venture with a rental as well and were bitten by the bug. We have owned many RVs since then and have never reconsidered our decision.

Welcome from Western NY! It sounds like your ducks were all in a row to start with. Feel free to ask anything here, as there's no such thing as a dumb question.

Welcome!

We started with a "loaner". DW's parents have a Class C, and they let us borrow it a couple times. That allowed us to determine more precisely what we could and could not live with when it came time to buy our RV.

Truth is, I had the "bug" for about 3 years before we actually bought our TT.

Welcome Greg and Nancy to JOF! Nice looking TT, we haven't been rv'ing long ourselves we just jump in it not knowing that we would like it or not but I know that I wanted one for about 20+ years but just have never bought one.

Welcome to the forum and having a Jayco.
We also purchased a 28RLS earlier this year, we're having a blast and enjoy the RLS, the windows give you a great view, we have just over 9 weeks in her this year and about 6000 miles.
A few of the biggest things are to research your travel route.... DON"T RELY ON JUST GOOGLE OR MAPPING PROGRAMS. They don't usually take into consideration low bridges, weight limits etc. Find a app or program that does. I've learned after my second mistake, first was following google off main roads to narrow roads, in the Smokey Mountains, literally ..left tires just over the yellow line, right tires on the white line, drop off 12 inches over the white line, luckily nothing passed big me the other way, but I had to almost stop to let oncoming traffic pass me, it was a long 8 miles of road. The second and last time I went off planned course we decided to get off the thruway and take a parkway in upstate NY by Lake Ontario, saw the sign and thought nothing of it "no commercial trucks"... well the first overpass was 12 ft, the lowest was 11' 8", lucky I'm only 11' 2' (not counting bouncing).
NEXT is use google aerial views for checking out locations for stopping and camping. it gives you a great overhead view of the area and where you can park or navigating in and out of a store or restaurant. We like to sometimes stop between leaving one campsite and before the next, like taking the trailer with us to a zoo, etc. calling ahead for parking info and using google aerial view helps. Also since the RLS has the windows for a great view, at many sites I can google the sites and get a good idea of the trailer position for the window views, not always, sometimes I can't tell, but many times I can. Example Stone Mountain, GA we had water, the mountain, and water out our window view as.
Good Luck and have fun
