Hello Everyone

I have been looking at getting a Jayco for a long time, and I have found a 1993 1406. It has a few issues, and would like to know if this is a good deal. It has a broken cable, and wont lift. Does not have any leaks, is in really good shape on interior. It has a few small tears in the vinyl, and the surge breaks got water in them. It is $700. I think its a pretty good deal, and leaves money in my budget to get the repairs done and have a large, nice unit for a good price. Am I right or wrong here?

I would say because of the year you have to replace the wheel bearings and tires, maybe new brakes, pressure relief valve on the water heater. Replace all the caulking, check every inch of flooring for soft spots. LP gas regulater , all lights and sockets for rusty connections. Many times that good deal turns into a money pit and more time fixing than camping but with some luck you'll be just fine. I on the other hand would be unlucky enough to find the money pit.
Best of luck to you on your new find.

Deals like this can be OK if you can do the work checking everything like Tunce said. You can bet on replacing tires so add that to the price right off the top. If you have to pay to have the rest of the work done.

Thank you,

I can do most of the work myself. tires were replaced and it comes with a spare. My only worry is the lift system, though from what I have read its fairly cheap for the parts.

Thanks for the advice on what to check.

Welcome to JOF.

I was given a PUP once and it was in fair shape except for the lift system. After looking it over, I decided to not pursue the project because it would have taken more of my time than I had to spare.

Your circumstances may differ but a 25 year old pop up will not have much resale value even in fair condition.

Just my opinion.

Seems like useable pop ups can be had for that much. I think you'd want to shoot for about half of that. Just my opinion.

Do some fishing and see how many have looked at it, if none or not many, point out every little problem you can find, and keep saying "I wonder how much that will cost to fix". Unless he's running a junkyard, he probably wants it gone.

Good luck!
