Hi All!
Hi, new member with a brand new 2015 Jay Flight Elite 28BHS. Looking forward to sharing our experiences (trials and tribulations) into the totally new to us travel trailer lifestyle. We previously camped out of a Fleetwood Valor pop up so this is going to be a big jump for us and it looks like I found the right place to ask the questions I'm sure to have over the next couple of months as we make the transition. My TV will be my trusty 2007 Nissan Titan CC LE 4x4 with big tow package. I see my new TT has a dry weight of 4890 lbs and dry hitch weight of 580 lbs so hopefully after loading there won't be any issues with towing. Which brings me to my next question.....I don't pick up the trailer till next week and part of me has some anxiety thinking about towing all that extra length. If anyone can tell me their experience making the leap from towing boats and trailers under 21 feet to a 30 foot TT it would be much appreciated. I probably have a hundred more questions but I'll save those for the appropriate threads. Really happy to have found this very knowledgeable site and joining the awesome Jayco family!

Welcome to the forum. I've towed 24' boats and popups. My first time towing my travel trailer (the day I purchased) was a little scary. Just take it slow and easy getting used to the way the tow vehicle handles the trailer. Stay well below the speed limit. I pulled into a vacant parking lot and practiced starting, stopping and backing up. If you have an area to practice, it will really help your confidence, if not take it really slow. You'll get the hang of it and your confidence will increase. Good luck and let us know

Welcome to the forum. The largest trailer I towed before my TT was a tandom axle car hauler about 20ft long. Like you, I have towed a popup and boats for years. I towed my new 264BHW to storage from the dealer on Feb. 9th 2015. That trip was 90 miles and really wasnt too bad at all with an almost empty truck and completely empty trailer. My first backup job was a blindsided back into a 10ft wide barn door. I thought that was easier than backing in my empty boat trailer at the ramp (due to the short trailer and hard to see). The hardest part for me was getting my brake controller dialed in and realizing the tow mirrors I had were worthless due to vibration. I think you will do just fine if you make sure your not in a rush - at least thats when I tend to forget something.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new unit, you will love the space. Long as you have good mirrors, you will get used to how that lenght tracks behind you while cornering and keep lots of distance for slowing down, we all learned just like you. Enjoy the new unit. I too am stepping up with another 6' of lenght this year for towing, can hardly wait to back up the 40' unit into a tight spot...lol

Congratulations and welcome! Like others, my first experience towing something bigger than a 24' boat was the day we took delivery of the TT. Take is slow and easy, keep in mind the wider turning radius, and you'll be fine.

Welcome to the JOF and congrats on the new trailer! Like you, I've towed smaller stuff, like a tent trailer or a Toad behind the motorhome. You'll get it down in no time just like the others here have written. Have fun and happy camping!
