New family to the RV world from Fla!

Hey guys and gals,

Very excited to finally create an account and join. Wife and I have been lurking and reading a lot on here! Thank you for all the invaluable information.

Wife and I had tent camped a few times before our two boys. When we had our first, we had one difficult camping experience and kind of avoided it. Last year we had our second son and rented a popup at Disney (he was 5 months old) and it was a lot easier on all of us than the tent setup. I was smitten and after the first night, the wife came around, too. Our really good friends had talked to us about a hybrid TT, but it kind of passed over our heads a little. We began looking at pop-ups late last year with no real urgency to see if a screaming deal presented itself. A few weeks ago the RV show happened and we went to go browse for pop-ups. There was only one there so a salesman showed us the smaller TT's that were in the price and weight of a pop-up. That's when it clicked on me about my friends talking hybrids. So I told my wife to look at those and sure enough, we were hooked. We looked at several floorplans (Coachmen, Palomini, Viking) there and saw the average deal was about 25% off MSRP. Did not even sit in a Jayco, but I worked in a related industry years ago and knew Jayco was considered to be top tier.

We left the RV show and began looking online for floorplans and we liked the 16XRB. Then the wife saw the 17XFD and she was set on it. I was slightly reluctant because of the extra weight and smaller tanks, but it would b more future-proof for us as we do have quite a bit of fmaily that might want to tag along and the extra bed will come in really handy. Or when the boys grow up and we need them to be separated, for example.

Throughout this entire process we were reading this forum for all kinds of questions we had and the information was invaluable! Could our honda tow it, what are tips to buy, who are good dealers, feedback from you guys on the options (like the outside grill or not)... INVALUABLE.

Fast forward to last week and we put an order in on a new one through RV Direct (about 31% off) and have an estimated delivery of Mid May. Our local dealer was about $2,000 more than what we got. We were willing to pay more but that was a big difference to us and RV Direct has a dealer 2 hours from us in Orlando.

Now we are browsing the list of things we need and preparing our Honda to tow our new TT (which in itself took a lot of researching).

Thank you all again for the amazing information and I look forward to contributing the info we gather from our process!

Welcome from a former Floridian! Live in N. Texas now, but we try to get back to FL at least a couple times per year. Very good folks on this site from what I've experienced and learned here.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new trailer. My sister-in-law bought from RV Direct in Orlando and was very happy with them.

That is excellent news! Reading other threads about the importance of buying local, made it tough on me. I'm also a Small Business Banker so buying local from small-medium sized businesses is very important to me, but it was a $2,000 difference and too much, IMO, relative to the price of our trailer.

We actually stopped into Orlando RV on our way back from a Disney vacation last weekend and got a good vibe from them. They showed us around the models they had even though my sales guy is in Albany NY.

Thank you to everyone else on here for the warm welcome! I am definitely going to be adding pictures and knowledge on topics I feel confident enough sharing.

Dear wife DW or dear husband DH... Or if you prefer darling wife or darling husband. Or, SWMBO. [emoji1] "She Who Must Be Obeyed"!

What year is your Odyssey? Ours is a 2012 Touring and while we don't tow with ours we load it up pretty good sometimes and I am considering putting Timbrens on it as well its time for new rear shocks. Just something to think about when loading up the Van then adding the trailer to it.

We purchased both our Campers straight from Orlando RV and have been happy with them (went back to our same salesman 3 yrs later) as far as the sales side. Both times they beat the quote I got from RV Direct Online (same company/owners) and I worked direct with them in Orlando, and negotiated in person and through email, actually closed the deal on our 1st Camper with Matt Strollo. I never had to use them for Service so can not speak to that side of their business and from reading some reviews I hope we don't have to. I can fix almost anything so would only be for major things and would most likely go to a different Jayco dealer.

Is the local dealer you mention in St Augustine?
