Talking New member (first time owner, hated travel trailer story)

Hello everyone!
New member from Oklahoma! I'm also new to the entire camper thing! I've always been that guy that said "That's not camping!" Talking about people with campers! But at the start of this spring my family and I took a camping trip in our tent as usual, but this spring was a soaking wet spring and we knew it was going to rain a little that weekend... As we went to bed the storms rolled in and so did the rain! It rained and rained and rained until our tent couldn't hold it any more and water started rushing in and needless to say, the wife was not happy! As we woke up the next morning I look across the campsite where a travel trailer set. We were drying everything off as the owner walks out, dry I might add, and gives us a friendly wave as she hooks her dog up to the leash. At that moment I looked at my wife and said "WERE GETTING A CAMPER!" And all of the sudden a gush of wind came and blew our tent over, which my kids were in, and they went tumbling! That was the last straw for me!
I have since bought a Jayco white hawk 28DSBH, and we love it so much! I'm glad to be apart of this community and look forward to learning and adding to discussions in the future! I hope you got a little laugh out of my story and can't wait to hear from you all! HAPPY CAMPING!

I always mocked the trailer trash myself but I wouldn't have it any other way now. Welcome to JOF!

Great story! I grew up tent camping with my parents whom eventually bought a 1988 Jayco 1208 popup. As a father of two (and soon to be three) I can't imagine how they dealt with 4 kids and a tent. The popup was a great upgrade at the time and today I love taking my kids camping in our hybrid 23B. Congrats on the trailer and enjoy that first trip!

Awesome story. I got a chuckle from it. I have done it all and basically camped in almost every mode possible (as you can probably tell from my signature line). I have bounced back and forth utilizing tents to campers. Having spent 26 years as a Marine, I am sure you can imagine the camping trips I have been forced to enjoy.....
Welcome to the forum and many safe and happy travels to you.

Great story. Pretty much same here except ours was a low of 28 when it was only supposed to be in the mid 40's and we didn't pack for colder weather.

Great story, DT!

Last time we "roughed it" was the weekend we got rid of the black & white 12 volt TV and got a color set!

Congrats on the new camper. DW and I tent camped with our boys for years. One Thanksgiving we joined some friends for the long weekend. It came a freekin flood Thanksgiving night, us and everthing soaking wet. Friends in camper nice and dry. Plus, we're too darn old to sleep on the ground.
I can still get down with the best of them, just takes a bit longer to get back up.

We always loved tent camping and through the years, had acquired all the equipment you would ever need for camping in the wilderness (now in my attic). We camp in bear country and as soon as the grandkids started going, we decided to put something thicker than canvas between them and the bears. Haven't looked back once...Sleeping in my bed is a lot more comfy than the air mattress on uneven ground ever was.

Welcome! Even when DH goes on business trips within the state - we'll take the TT instead of booking a hotel, nothing like sleeping in your own bed.

Our tipping point were two Samoyeds ... they liked to nest (on top of the sleeping bag) and I'd wake-up each morning with a face full of their fuzzy under-fur. Finally told the DH we were finished camping unless he came-up with a fix - and he did! (a few years later the same approach got me our first dishwasher - baby excuse instead of dogs).

Welcome! My wife and I bought our first travel trailer 4 weeks ago and now all I can think about is when we'll get to go out again! I hope you're having as much fun.

Safe travels.

Our 28DSBH was our first TT as well and we absolutely love it!! Have had 2 seasons of great memories and have travelled coast to coast across Canada with it.
Hope you create many great memories in yours.

Welcome. Enjoyed your intro.

We upgraded from a tent to a Greyhawk. Now, as far as I am concerned, "roughing it" means we have no utilities and have to run the generator to make coffee.
