New Member/not new to Jayco

Hi from Long Island, NY! I have owned a 1994 Jayco 1207 pup for 4 years, and we are considering an upgrade to a TT with <gasp> indoor plumbing. I love living in the popup for most of the summer, but my 4 kids are getting bigger, we have 2 camping dogs, and frankly I'm tired of trying to find a bathroom in the dark at 2 am. (Not to mention waking everyone up just trying to get out of the pup!!)

My husband and I have been shopping and love love LOVE the Eagle super lite 304BHK, it's incredible and from what the dealer tells me, my Suburban can pull it. My husband is trying to talk me into a slightly less expensive TT, so I've looked around at what we need as far as space, and anything comparable, is too heavy for my 1500 TV.

I am a big fan of Jayco, and it's good to find so many knowledgeable folks all in one place!!

Welcome to the forum. We also traded in our PUP for a Jayco 26RLS. There are only 3 of us and 2 dogs. Even though we had bathroom facilities in our PUP, getting away from wet canvas, fridge for little people, folding and finger tucking has been nice.

We will be on your island the end of June for DH nephew's graduation in Bayport. We will be pulling the TT. We just have to make sure we don't get on the wrong road pulling the TT.

Have you tried getting a quote from www.rvdirect.com and taking it to the dealer to see if they will price match for you? This might save you a bit. Enjoy the search.

Take care.

I'm going to try using rvdirect! Thanks! Bayport is about 25 minutes from me.

You'll need to stay on Route 27 or the LIE and you'll be fine-both are used by tractor trailers! Will you be parking at a campsite or near the house? Smiths Point is pretty close-you might want to have a little beach vacay while you're out here! (and call me-I LOVE smiths Point! LOL!!!)

I'm still trying not to worry about my Suburban pulling 8500 pounds. I don't think we'll have a problem, but if I don't have anything to worry about-I'm just not happy!

Yup, went to WES. I live pretty close, so I'm always looking there. I've tried the used listings, and I'll tell ya, I've seen some scary stuff.

I would also prefer to finance to an extended period of time. In this day and age you never know what's gonna happen next!!

Welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum Coleman6! One bit advice that most members here would agree on is -never- believe a salesman who says your anticipated tv will tow your prefered tt! With a gvwr 8500lbs on the tt you are looking at and 7300lbs a standard Suburban will pull, you might find yourself unsafe for yourself and others on the road. Verify the towing capacity of -your- SUV!

Also, our experience with a -1/2 ton- truck that is rated to tow more than 10,000lbs, our tt gvwr is 7500lbs. It tows fine behind us and brakes well. We have a pretty good WDH and experience none or hardly little sway in strong winds. However, when climbing hills, we bog down with the 18wheelers. You might consider a 3/4 ton to tow that tt with, or perhaps just choose a lighter tt. Another consideration is to look at the GCWR of the tt/tv setup you are considering.

At any rate, see if this "calulator" will help you in making your decision. Good luck, happy shopping, and let us know what you wind up doing

There is nothing like having your own bathroom in the middle of the night. Welcome to the forum.

Thank you!! We've decided to go with the Jay Flight 29 QBH. It's got the 4 bunks! I have two gripes though....1-it has no bedroom doors. just curtains-we'll have to add them. 2-It doesn't come in the Coffee color scheme-I really loved that color. We're gonna go with the Sierra, it's nice but not that dark brown that I really like.

My 5 year old is impressed with the nightlights for every bed.

The dealer will tell you anything to sell a camper. Do your due diligence before you buy anything!
