Cool New (old) Jayco Owner

My name is Fred, and my wife and I live in Upstate NY (south of the Finger LAkes). We just bought a 1988 Jayco Designer Mini 26 ft motor home. Little did we know what we were getting into. The old adage that "If it looks too good to be true, it probably isn't" is alive and well. We were told the reefer didn't work, so we were prepared for that. What we weren't prepared for was the furnace, water heater, and (engine) AC not working, and massive roof leaks. And the gas gauge doesn't work. On the other hand, the vehicle has low mileage, good rubber and the interior is in pretty good shape for it's age, except for the water damage to the ceiling and walls. I am in the process of fixing up the interior and we just dropped a bundle at an RV place having it checked out and (sort of) repaired. Still not sure what they did about the heater and water heater, but they "don't do" engine-related stuff (i.e. gas gauge and AC). Live and learn. Lots to fix up and get ready for use, probably next summer by this point in the year. Glad the roof leaks are fixed.
Expressions of sympathy are not necessary, but I appreciate anyone sending good thought our way. Anything might help.

Welcome to the forums. This is the place for answers that is for sure.
Did you check it out before you purchased? It sounds like a few of thise things would have been obvious in a thorough walkthru...
Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

However, you are a good example of Buyer Beware! If it looks too good, it probably is.

Welcome! I love projects like yours, although I've never done a Motorhome.

I have restored many old boats, cars and trucks. Good luck with your project and most of all DON'T get discouraged. Walk away when you are too stressed to think straight then go back when ready...
