Smile New to Jayco!

HI! My wife and I live in Central NC along with our three canine babies - Majesty (16 yr old chihuahua), Scout (12 yr old chihuahua) and Snuggles (7 year old chi/jack Brussel). We have been camping for about ten years now. Started in the back of my Toyota Tacoma in a camper shell. Then moved up to a small truck camper in the back of the same Tacoma. Bought our first TT in 2011- a Skyline Koala 19RB that we have had a great time in, but wanted a little more elbow room.

My wife and I have been looking, and looking (do any of us ever stop!) at travel trailers trying to decide what we wanted to move up to. We looked at many, many, many (this could go on for a while!) campers and decided that the rear living layout suited our needs best. We had sorted and sifted down to three - Keystone Cougar, Coachmen Apex and the Whitehawk. Finally pulled the trigger today and just made arrangements to purchase a 2014 Whitehawk 27DSRL! Looking forward to discussing the merits of the Jayco's with everyone.

Welcome to JOF and Jayco. The rear living fp has become very popular and brought many to upgrade including us. Hope you will frequent and contribute here often. Do you have any favorite campgrounds in your area? We have camped NC for many years bit never in the Pinehurst area.

We go to the NC mountains a lot. Rivercamp USA on the New River above North Wilkesboro is in a beautiful location. The campground is nothing fancy, but bath house is clean and they rent canoes and kayaks there.

Campfire Lodgings is in Weaverville, about 10 min north of Asheville. Small park with a road up the mountain that is a little tight to get into, but it is worth the climb. There are 6-7 "premium" sites that have a clear view out over the French Broad River for fantastic views of the sunset. The bathhouse is clean and the non premium sites are fairly level and are well maintained. They have a community area beside the premium sites so that everyone can gather and take in the view!

We also love Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, near Winston Salem for a weekend getaway. Beautiful park with nice walking trails. Zooland is near the NC Zoo in Asheboro. We like that one as it's only 35 min from the house. One section with full hookups a little unlevel, and a second section down by the river with water/electric that is grassy and more level.

In Raleigh, there is the State Fairgrounds campground. Clean, full hookups, no facilities, but cheap. Great base for all the museums fairground and their activities, NC State football and basketball, and Carolina Hurricanes Hockey is just across the street at the PNC Arena.

We don't head towards the coast very much, so I don't have much to share there, but it is a beautiful place, especially the Outer Banks. There are a good number of campgrounds there, with most of them in the villages of Rodanthe/Waves.

Congratulations. It's exciting to get a new trailer. We've been looking at Jayco the last little while. Still on our short list. Maybe later this year.
Safe travels!

Welcome to the forum. We've had our 27DSRL for a year now and are pretty happy with it. Had problems with the shower leaking but hopefully dealer fixed it. We just bought a new residential queen mattress to put in it - hope it will go in ok. The short queen just doesn't do it for me at 6'4". I would buy it again.
