New to travel trailers

Hi, I am Joe. I got a 2006 sport 197. I took it out once right after I bought it. I have read a lot of things on this site, and all of it has helped in getting this trailer good to go. My wife and I are quitting our current jobs (that we hate) and traveling the country for 1 1/2 years. It is for a few reasons. One is that we got a chance to financially afford the trip, and who doesn't want to take an extended vacation? Another reason is that we want to figure out where in this country we want to end up. I am 28 and she is a couple years older then me. We both know we need to get into another set of jobs, but this is better than waiting till we are dead or dieing to take time off and slow down. We have a plan to see all 48 states. Weather dictating where we are at. (North in summer, south in winter) I had a mechanical trade in the navy, so I am pretty good at fixing stuff. Oh, my tv is a 2010 jeep wrangled unlimited. It is fully warrantied, so I don't have to worry about that as much as the trailer. So, I know that the weight ratings are off. 3700ish on the trailer and only 3500 on the jeep. Well, I don't plan on packing the trailer more then 3500lbs. I will get it all weighed once I get on the road and to the first weigh station. (So I'm not too far to turn back if I have too much stuff) I will keep weighing it ever so often just in case I need proof as to what the weight really is.

So yea, that is my plan, and it is nice to finally be able to say hello to ya'll. Ya'll have some amazing and ingenious ideas that I love reading about. Thank you for all ya'lls help!!

Joe welcome to the forum.....good luck on your big adventure. Maybe you could start a facebook page that documents your travel along with some pics so that we may follow along.

Welcome to the JOF! Your "Great Adventure" sounds awesome! Enjoy! Made the same decision a little later in life (@ 62); will start this summer. Hope to see you on the road.

awesome! I would like to consider doing that. The hard part about that for us is the schooling for the kid, as I have no desire to homeschool, as I would do everything wrong X3.

Great sounding adventure, start a thread and post to it periodically where you are at, what you like and dislike about the areas you visit, and any hiccups and so forth.
