Smile Newbie step by step instructions

Hello everyone!
My family just brought home a Jayfeather ultra lite 19h just yesterday! We had an awesome walk thru where we bought it, and I had my phone out taking notes the whole time. ( think the guy thought I was crazy!!!). Well we go back to pick it up a week later after the work on our tow veh was done and my phone had lost ALL of my notes! This is our first travel trailer and we are a really nervous that we will mess it up on our first time out later this week! If anyone has some words of wisdom or the link to a site that gives a list of things to do first time out that would be awesome! Please help!
Signed,

plenty of videos on youtube to get the basics down on setting up. You can do a practice set up at home (if able to) ahead of time just to get the hang of things.

Just take your time so you can do things right the first time. All of us went through the same nervousness once upon a time. Even in the CG, if you have a little trouble getting lined up just right, most fellow campers will be patient with you, and many will even try to help. If we on the JOF can be of assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

Don't panic - all you need to get started can be picked up at WALMART or LOWES... Even after you go campng... Just keep that in mind...WALMART and LOWES

its a GREAT IDEA to sleep over night a few nights at home....

With an 12-gauge or better heavy duty 120VAC extension cord and a RV30A-15A long adapter (WALMART in the RV Section) you can get your small trailer hooked up to the garage 120VAC standard receptacle and can run just about everything in your trailer. Once your tralier is powered up you can figure out real quick what all you will need to get started camping.

This setup will run most everything inside your trailer but keep in mind you cant run the air conditioner or the high wattage microwave at the same time otherwise it will trip the house/gargae breaker..

Perhaps you have a close-by RV guy around to give you some ON-HANDS tips...

Welcome to JOF. Just be patient, lots of folks recommend camping in the driveway first and then you will get the feel of what you will need. Just remember to have a pad and paper in the camper so you can write things down as you think of them. Congrats on the new camper.

Welcome. Make sure to read through the owners manual. Everything you need to know about setting up your camper will be in there. There is also info not applicable to your camper as well, so you need to sort through it.

The biggest thing to do first is to level side to side using blocks or moving around on the campsite. Next is to chock the wheels then unhook from TV. Use the jack to level front to back and then set stabilizers. After that...open a beer!

This is kind of my routine. I have a different trailer so you'll have to adjust for what you have.
1. Back into site, stop about 2' from where you want to be.
2. Make sure electric will reach post.
3. Check level side to side. Place blocking if needed and back into final location.
4. Chock wheels
5. Disconnect TV and pull clear.
6. Adjust tongue jack to level front to back
7. Crank down support jacks.
8. Open camper and open bed ends if you have them.
9. Check you water valves are correctly set to fill HW tank if you have one
10 Connect city water, open valves to get air out of lines
11. Open pressure relief valve on water heater until its full, then close.
12. Turn on propane tank, light burner on stove
13. Light hot water tank.
14. Connect any sewer hoses
15. Make sure your frig is switched to electric if you want to run off 120V
16. Check under sinks for any loose connections or leaks
Check all lights, microwave, a/c
17. Put your awning out
Layout awning matt if you have one
18. Set my picnic table up and lawn chairs
Connect the outside grill if you have one
19. Fill any fresh water containers you may use
20. Open a diet Pepsi and start setting up the fire for the evening.

Hope this helps,
Doug

X2 on Doug’s list.

When we are ready to leave (home, camp, rest stop, etc), I always do a double check of the TT and TV. By that I check the hitch, making sure everything is secure (chains, bars, tongue lock unit, etc), look underneath for any forgotten items. Check the tires for flats, bugles, tire pressure (just before leaving home usually). Check the doors, hatches, steps, bump (sewer storage cap), bikes on the rear bike carrier are secure. It takes less than a minute to do my walk around, but then I know I am safe. I do this every time we stop somewhere.

The sewer cleanout is an interesting thing to do the first few times. My recommendation shortly before leaving camp is to fill both the black tank and gray water tank at least ¾ full. This will allow for better flow through the hose and a better clean out. AS we pulled up to the dump station when our TT was new I had my DW get out to the TV and tell me when the sewer connection was close to the dump station receptacle. I carry a box of disposable surgical glove (sanitation issue). Connect the sewr hose to the TT, place the other end into the sewer receptacle. Drain the black tank FIRST. Once you feel it is empty have someone dump a gallon of water down the toilet, this will help flush out any remaining debris out of the tank. Close the black tank valve and open the gray water tank, this will flush the sewer hose, of debris. While the gray water tank is draining add a few gallons of water to the black water tank. Always keep a few gallons of water in the black tank. Many people have different concoctions they add to the near empty black tank. We add about a ½ cup of PinSol. Once the gray water tank is drained, close the valve, disconnect and flush the inside of the sewer hose, and put it away.

We add the toilet chemicals right before we leave home. This allows it to mix in that remaining water in the black tank as we are driving.

Check with the CG as you arrive if you have water at the site, for direct hook up or if you need to fill the tank. Many CG have a water filling station, many of them are at the dump station. Fill you tank but make sure the drain valve under the TT is closed.
