Thumbs up Newbies from GA

Hello fellow Jayco owners. We just took delivery of our new 2010 Jayco Eagle 322FKS. We took it on a short weekend test run and are loving the space and lay-out.

We traded our 2007 Jay Feather 29N and are more than pleased with the upgrade.

We are now counting the days until our 33 day Kayak fishing trip beginning Mar. 12.

Safe travels,

Welcome

Wow very nice!!! I like the picture, I was curious how you brought your kayak. My husband and I want to take our kayaks as well and have been looking at the different options for the truck to hang them. Looks like you made your own rack out of pvc? Thats a great idea because we have been pricing and there very expensive. Well best of like with your new rig and many safe travels.

Yes, PVC for about $40. It has worked great for over two years now- and no rust issues

Thanks.

Hi Sam and Deb,

We also have kayaks but haven't taken them since upgrading to the larger truck and trailer. Do you have the plans for the pvc rack that you made? Can we get some close up pics on how you mounted the rack into the truck, etc? Thanks and welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum!

Sorry, no official plans, just custom cuts and fit to my truck.

I used 2 inch schedule 40 PVC.

8 - "T's"
8 - 45 degree elbows
small can of cleaner
small can of PVC glue
and several sections of pipe.

I attached it to my truck by cutting sections of 2" x 4" and fitting one end to go inside the 2" PVC and the other to fit the bed rail holes. I left the end that fits into the bed rail slightly longer than the depth of the bed rail hole so the rack rests on the wood rather than the bed rail.

The front and rear bed rail width is slightly different on my truck so measure twice and cut once applies.

Pictures continued in next post.

contd.

This is the 2" x 4" cut to fit.

Hi Sam and Deb,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new rig. We just purchased our first TT about a month ago so we are new to the forum and to TT camping. We are fellow Kayak fishermen and are really looking forward to expanding our fishing territory this summer. Thanks for the pics on the PVC rack... very nicely done! Just curious... do you do mostly freshwater fishing or salt water?

Thanks for the pics Sam/Deb! By chance, can you post some pics of the rack installed on your truck? Whenever you get a chance. I am passing your pics and info onto Don as he would be the lucky one to build it!

Patrick,

I prefer to fish salt. There are so many more possibilities there. Here is a pic of my wife with her personal best Red and then another with my personal best (from the kayak) - a nice cow Mahi Mahi:

Wow! incredible, you caught those while on your kayak? Those fish must have been towing you around until you reeled them in. This makes me even more excited about ordering my new kayak. My hubby already has his, but I've been looking at a Hobie Mirage sport kayak for me, its nice because it can also be paddled with foot peddles if my arms get tired. My hubby loves fishing especially salt water. He likes to go for blues up here in New England. I can't wait for the nice weather. Come on Spring!!!

Yea, they do tow you but that is part of the fun. We call it a "sleigh ride".

I like the Blues too, but they get bigger up your way.

Google kayak fishing and you can get the scoop in your area. Of coarse take a look at our site here: www.georgiakayakfishing.com. We have a free forum too.
