Sale price & deal - tell me if you think this is a good one

Hello folks!

First time posting here and just about to push the button on a brand new Jayco Jayfeather SLX 16XRB.
I'd like to get your input-

Since I live an hour away from the Jayco dealer (Richardsons RV in Riverside, CA) I am negotiating a deal with them by phone.
I will be writing them a check for the unit.

Me: Currently upgrading from a Camping World 10' pop up trailer (not part of this deal).
TV is a 2007 Ford Edge with a class II hitch and a tow rating of 3500lbs.
Since they recommend a WDH system. they must do additional hitch work on my TV - change the receiver from 1 1/4" to 2".
The unit is listed on their website at $14,995.

Here is the deal they propose:

"Ok I worked with my manager on the numbers a little bit more and this seems to be the best I can do:
Sale price $13995
Replace receiver and install e2 brand weight distribution hitch with built in sway control for $850.... So we came down another $1000 off the sale price. So your total out the door is $16478.11"

Math doesn't make sense. Are they adding sales tax? Here in Massachusetts, we pay the sales tax when we go to register TT. (Or car, for that matter.)

One thing to keep in mind is that prices are usually higher on the West coast due to freight charges. CA also has high sales taxes which I suspect is where the "out the door" price come in.

I looked up CA DMV and the sales tax on Riverside is 8%

Also, in CA the dealer does all the DMV registration and sales tax stuff. When I asked, they said there was no charge for dealer prep.

Seems reasonable to me. Here's why...

Per RedHorse MSRP = $16k
Easily add +$2500 shipping to Southern CA

Making Landed MSRP $18.5

Folks refer to 30% off MSRP, but as you know the higher the trailer price the more profit to work with. On a SLX I would think 22-25% would be more realistic.

So if you had a purchase price of $13,875 (25% off MSRP) then added WD hitch and hitch work back at $500, add DMV Registration @ $200 & sales tax @ 8%. If my math is right I come up with $15,725 out the door. Certainly a little lower than your offer, but I also devalued the hitch work from what you mention.

You have to decide how hard you want to grind for the extra few hundred that may be on the table.

My deal: selling price: $13,554.53, hitch and receiver work: $850, CA state sales tax: $1,306.22, doc fee: $80, Vehicle license fee: $204 Ca tire fee: $5.25 = $16,000

A couple of things.... first, just a friendly reminder that you are very close to your vehicles maximum tow rating. If you plan on loading up the 2.5 kids and touring the country or pulling mountains....it *might not* be a comfortable towing set-up.

More important...I don't see where you mentioned the model year - If your TT is a leftover 2013....you should be getting a MUCH better deal.

I'll leave you with this thought...the list price difference between your 165XRB and my 154BH is $1,900. I also had... 1) Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller installed 2) USED Equal-I-zer WDH hitch Dealer Installed 3) Upgrade to Aluminum Rims.....my delivered price was $10,200

Thanks Three B - I travel single with a 30 lb fur kid and don't overly load the TV or (previously) the pop up. Great reminder regarding the tow rating, for which I am very, very aware of. I try not to have nightmares about the TT crash video's I've seen on YouTube and other forums I've read regarding that subject.
I'd much rather spend the $850 for the proper WDH/sway set up than worry about safety and cost savings. Yes, the TT is a 2014, and I did look for left over '13's in my area but didn't locate any.
They had a 2013 16V but I didn't want the bunks or have to drop the dinette to sleep.
