Why has the board been configured to allow guests to have access to all of the members' profiles yet one must be logged in to see the pictures in threads?
Seems kinda backwards.

Members can control who sees their profile (and other features) by adjusting their profile in Control Panel/Profile Privacy. You can set items to Everyone, Registered Members, Your Contacts, Your Friends.

OK, that explains the profiles. Strange that "Everyone" is the default.
Now, why are pictures blocked to guests?

I use a few vBulletin sites and that seems to be the default on all of them. I'm not sure if it can be changed or not. I imagine it's a setting that is defaulted to not show pics to get people to register.

That is EXACTLY the reasoning that I had regarding restricted access to profiles by default.
