Editing

Why do you lose the ability to edit a post a few minutes after it's posted? I noticed some typos in a couple of my posts this morning that make sentences a little unclear (and make me look like I don't know how to spell or have any sense of grammar ) and I can't edit anymore.

There is a window to edit, used to be two hours not sure what it is now since the forum was updated last year. If you PM a moderator they will be happy to edit a typo.

Oh goodness, I don't think I want to bother them with editing spelling and grammar mistakes. I type quickly while I'm thinking then re-read and there are always mistakes. That will get old fast. LOL

I just don't quite get the rationale behind it. All of the other forums I participate on allow me to edit whenever I feel like it.

I think the rationale is they do not want someone changing text or deleting posts days later that could lead other posts to not make sense within the thread.

And does that happen so often as to be a problem that requires restricting editing? I'm on several high traffic boards and it hasn't been an issue in the 8 or so years I've been on them.

I'll just have to proof read more carefully I guess if it's something that's not going to change.

I`m not sure how often it would happen since there has always been an edit window here. The forum configuration is set up by admin, not the site team. You can always contact them and make a suggestion, by clicking on "contact us" at the bottom of the page. I happen to agree the edit window should at least be longer......

I use Tapatalk on my phone for several forums and the phone has auto correct . It's amazing how it just puts words that you don't want in your post !

I try to be a stickler on myself for correct spelling and such. Many times I have to fix my fat finger mistakes but have learned to do it ASAP cause of the edit window on this forum.

+1

I find myself using this all the time. I got a new keyboard recently, and my fingers aren't quite used to it yet. And it's cheaper than my old one, so the keys often register more than I wanted them to.

I just try to read my posts before I hit "submit", and I end up catching most of my errors. I have a Journalism degree, so that stuff drives me nuts.

I wanted to edit a post in the classifieds to reflect I had lowered the price. Couldn't do it. That would be a nice feature.....

In this case it may be better to just add a reply.
