When looking at someones profile page there is a small square symbol to the far right of the members name just to the left of the "Mini Statistics" block.

This square is either gray or green.

When you mouse-over the square you get one of three messages:
[member name] is an unknown quantity at this point
[member name] is on a distinguished road
[member name] will become famous soon enough

What is the meaning of the above?

I have established it is NOT related to the number of posts. It is not related to member/moderator status. I have detected no correlation between the color of the square and the message presented.

It's probably the NSA. Some sort of code talk for whether someone is on the terrorist watch list....

Takes me back to elementary school where students were classified into reading groups (eagles, robins, blue jay, etc.), and we ALL knew what those meant!! Looking forward to learning the definitions of any hidden symbols for transparency is always a good thing.

It's a ghost of sorts in the software. Back in the old days, our software had a feature for "karma" - something similar to a points system for "post likes". As you racked up points, your special status (noted above) changed.

Long ago it was disabled as folks sometimes tried to game the points system and replaced with the thank you function. I'll see if it can be eradicated entirely and if not... well, it can be one of the JOF special quirks
