Manuals Section

I tried to upload the Dexter Axle Complete Service Manual for 600 - 8000 lb axles to the Miscellaneous section of the new Manuals collection. It all seemed to work, in fact I am shown the top contributor with 1 (!) file uploaded!!! As my head swelled with that honor, the file did not seem to be anywhere. Now my head is not swelled. What did I do wrong?

Manuals Collection? On JOF? If there is one here, then I've been living a sheltered life. Can you provide a link to where this is? I'd like to see it with my own eyes.

lol. I'm not sure where that came from but your file IS there. It's just not where you think it is. Go to the Misc section (you can see there is 1 file). Then click manage files. There she is.

Thanks! Sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees. Didn't realize it was up there at the top of the pages.

Your manual has to be approved before anyone can download it (similar to mod approvals of images, links, etc. for new members).

Please bear with us while we become educated on the procedure for how to do this.

It worked - the file is there, and I downloaded it as a test.

The Manuals collection is a *** wonderful *** addition to the forum. I really think it will be a great service.

So we're the only ones that can see the manage files link? That actually makes sense.

OK - you all are waaaaay ahead of me. Yes. There is a new feature to upload documentations, parts lists, etc.

All uploaded documents must be approved by a moderator (spam abatement) and they may tweak the title of the file to make it easier for folks to find. With time we hope this will be become an amazing resource for the community

Were you uploading a file from your computer, or linking to a file? JOF may not have permission to access the linked even though, you might. If this is the case, can you provide the URL of the file you were trying to link?

Sorry, if these questions seem insulting to your intelligence, but we're, in a sense, playing doctor here with something new and any question is a good question for an area that we're unfamiliar with. You're putting my 47 years of computer knowledge to the test.

I was directly uploading to the forum. After attempting to upload the file, I get the following error:

Also, it's a 4 MB PDF

I've found it a little hard to figure out what exactly is happening when trying to upload a file. I get the exact message that nylon does; I ignore the message (others tell me this is my typical behavior) then I go back a page and continue. It may be that that message does not appear until after the file reaches the server and maybe disappears if a moderator approves posting the file.

Sure enough, I checked the "my files" section and there were the 3 uploads. When I got the message I assumed it failed. Sounds like it's really just telling me I can't access the document (because it's not approved).

Thanks for everyone's patience and help so far as we get this new feature to "fly".

Yes, every file that's uploaded must be approved by a moderator before it can be viewed and/or downloaded. Because of this, some manuals appear to have been uploaded multiple times because it was assumed they didn't upload successfully.

Help....

I uploaded five different Thetford PDFs about the Style II toilet; although each of the five files had a different name, they appear only with the name of the thread.

1) My intent was to post one thread on the Thetford Style II toilet, with five different files (with different names) posted to that thread. Is this possible somehow?
2) As is, that thread is not very helpful. Could a mod change the file names to be the name of the file as uploaded? If that's not possible, could the mod just totally erase that thread, and I will re-post the files, one file to a thread.

Thanks.

I can change these.

Which one? There are 6 manuals loaded. All appear to be approved.

Also, walk me through step by step how you're getting to them. I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong.
