Can laugh about it now..
File this under stupid gaffs that were supposed to be smart.
Our first Official use of the new TT was an extended Memorial Day Weekend (Friday to Tuesday) of boondocking in the Adirondacks.
The TT was positioned poorly outside the barn (I got lazy when we brought it home from the dealer) so I was going to have to maneuver a bit over grass and a lump along side the driveway to get onto the road.
I put the truck into 4x4 trading maneuverability for traction on the uphill over grass.
Once halfway up onto the road, the whole thing misbehaved! It barely made the last turn onto the road (missed the far side ditch by inches).
Finally got the whole rig straight and on the road.
One last glance at the instruments before getting underway. Damn! The brake controller is showing no connection to the brakes. It happened when the dealer hitched things up too. The 7-Pin wasn't seated properly.
Wiggled and reseated the cord. Nope, didn't help. Pulled and reconnected. Nope.
10 minutes of looking for a broken wire and disconnecting and reconnecting. While SWMBO sat fuming in the passenger seat. We were already 2 hours later than we had planned.
Then I tried to shuffle the rig a bit. Trailer's brakes were locked!
Part of hitching up I looped the breakaway cable a bit differently. It pulled out when the rig flexed left with an up-and-over the lump. No wonder the last maneuver was so difficult!
Found the cable and plastic plug. Reattached them my 'old' way.
Light on. Ready to go.
The only headache after that was adjusting the brake controller and really awful fuel mileage (we dragged a full tank of fresh water with us).
