How do you pronounce this?

An elderly couple on a road trip through Louisiana see a sign for Natchitoches, and banter back and forth on how it's pronounced. They argue back and forth for several minutes, and decide to stop for something to eat. Once inside the restaurant, the husband asks a young lady, "Very slowly, would you tell my wife, just exactly where we are?" The young lady looks her straight in the eye, and says "Burrrr-gerrr Kiiing".

My home town. As we pronounce it, Nah-ka-tish. Funny to hear some try to pronounce it, or some of the French stuff all over LA.

I never understood the pronunciation either, since it looks like it should be Natch - i - toches. I guess you just grow up saying it like everybody else.

That sounds like the guy who couldn't remember the last name of the guy he was talking to so he asked him to spell his last name. The other guy gave him a funny look and spelled out, "S.M.I.T.H."
