Crabby, did you have to winterize? We actually had unusually freezing temperature cold here the past two weeks. We had to fire up the heater several nights when we hit 26 degree's to keep the pipes from freezing. We usually only get that around here for a couple days in late January so we don't winterize. Sounds like you get the weather pattern we get

Some of the snow here in Chicago is finally melting because of the freezing rain we are having today. The roads are pretty slick this morning so no camping for us anytime soon.
At least I don't live in North Dakota!

... or Montana. A rancher in Montana said their weather comes straight down from the north pole, and is only interrupted by a barbed wire fence and the gates open.

Yeah, anywhere up there is just cold. They are predicting at least 6 inches this weekend. They way they talk about it we are in for a snowmageddon.

Need some advice on winter weather. We are supposed to pick up our camper in the middle of February in southern Indiana. I read on another forum that you should take your new camper somewhere close by for a try out for the dealer to fix things.
Since it will be winter any suggestions because I am sure the trailer will be winterized. I am pretty sure we bought the insulated under cover

Ideally a camping weekend near the dealer would be nice, but not always practical. What I would do is advise the dealer in advance that you want to perform a detailed PDI before signing off...., and that you want the PDI to take place "indoors" (that way you won't be rushed do to the cold weather).
They can winterize after the PDI.

You may want to start your own thread to get more views on this question, perhaps in General Jayco chat.
A few suggestions,
You could get the dealer to try all systems in a thorough PDI as Rustic Eagle indicated.
You could dewinterize and give the unit a good tryout and then winterize again before returning home.
You could dewinterize and leave the furnace on the whole way home, but depending on where you live you would have to rewinterize again anyway when you get home.
You could camp without water and stay winterized using the CG bathouse. In this case you could try all systems except freshwater and hot water heater.

Rustic eagle and crabman
Thanks for the suggestions. I think the dealer was going to do a thorough pdi because he said our next visit would take about three hours. I will chec on the winterizing though.
For camping close we actually thought about it and thought maybe we would jut not test the water systems. We are close to louisville ky and right now the temp is above freezing but in feb the temps get colder but we might get lucky with the weather

I like the idea of de-winterizing and testing the fresh and hot water systems. When camping cold, I use RV anti-freeze to flush and jugs of water for drinking and other needs. Showers are tough/virtually non-existent Very little goes down the sinks and always with some antifreeze.
For us, having the toilet even when it is very cold out is key......the pink stuff allows that....

I would make sure that the PDI includes water to the city connection, check for line leaks, and put a few gallons in the fresh water tank to insure that the pump operates properly. Also have the hot water tank filled checking both the electric and LP operation.

Ours is a little different. We're NOT camping this week.
Can't get the image to work. Freezing rain for the next day and snow before and after that.

Thanks for all the advice and sorry to hijack the thread. I thought it might be appropriate because it was a little related to winter camping

Completely agree with this assessment. On our PDI, the water system wasn't tested. When we went out on our first trip, didn't have a problem with leaks, but the water heater would fire on gas but would not stay lit. Had to get a new igniter because the flame sensor was bad. As far as camping weather here in Southern Indiana, good news is it's actually warm enough to camp, bad news is the 3 to 5 inches of rain were getting has prompted flood warnings.

The dealer is actually supposed to test all the systems and inspect the entire unit for issues BEFORE the customer walk through, but that probably does not always happen.
