We raised our dogs similar to children. The more time spent up front with behavioral expectations pays off during their adult years.

Manners in greeting humans, no jumping up, no licking, shake when asked, sit to be petted.
I chose the 5 photo to include in this post because they represent our two rescue lab mixes well both are 8 years old and have spent 7 years with us. Being rescues they both had issues and have different personalities.

The have their own toys and differentiate between inside and outside toys. Do not get on furniture, tables or counters. Have their own spaces. They have their own doctors, food, beds and treats. Never chained and live inside.

They are not perfect but they are ours. They have never been kenneled, left with others nor separated.

They have quirks and things that we watch them closely. We do not let them become bullies at the school yard however we let them be themselves and have fun.

As for camping they love it, we took them in tents, pop-up and now the StormPOD. We acclimated them to each, setting boundaries and making them feel at home. Rules are different when traveling vs at home, but they get excited when we hook up the truck, often loading up themselves and waiting to get underway.

The male Kilo (black) gravitates to the wife and the female Sierra (blonde) gravitates to me. However, they have to earn their place in the family and they have.

Smells like camping - we just can't get them to wipe their feet.

Yup. We have a carpeted ramp for the blind dog (std. poodle) that both dogs use (it helps a bit) and the 'pleather' furniture that wipes easily.

"Hunter" is my 8+ year old Brittany. He's both the smartest and most gregarious dog I've ever owned. Like me, he's a full-time camper and just loves the lifestyle. During the summer, he helps me with my Michigan State Parks hosting duties. During the winter, we just "chill out" in the Texas Hill Country.

Our Black Lab LOVES to go camping

We use a Dog Park Finder app when traveling it also locates dog friendly restaurants.

That's a new one to me, I didn't know there was such a thing as a dog friendly restaurant outside of service dogs.

I learned something in florida last month. Saw a woman going into walmart with a dog. She wasn't blind or crippled. Wife informs me that there are service dogs who can sense seizures and the people keep them with them so they get advance warning or something.

There are many restaurants that are dog-friendly particularly if they have outside seating.

This will be Miley's first year camping with us (nothing to do with Miley Cyrus - it's the name of the settlement and the beach where our Bahamas home was).

He loves riding and going places, and exploring the great outdoors. he is a shelter mutt, and the best friend two old folks could have. His energy is contagious.

We will only take him when it's appropriate... if the object of the trip is not dog friendly, then we leave him home. I won't take him along to sit in the TT all day while we are out, and some places just aren't right for a dog.

I camped with a dog once, but I'm not proud of it and don't really want to talk about it. She was a stray I picked up at a bar the one evening.

Bella the Yorkie and Chappie our rescue mix LOVE joining us while camping. We just picked up or camper last week, but they always came while we were in tents.

This is our old boy Ranger, who left us in '09. He loved camping and got excited whenever he saw me hook up the trailer -- I had to take him with me when I took the trailer to the storage yard, or else he would think I was going camping without him.

Is there any other way?

Just like one of the kids, we would have a hard time going without her.

Ha we went camping about 10-15 times this last years with our terrier mutt, and a rhodesian ridgeback. Added a pyrenees the last two trips and now we also have a recently rescued pit that is going on vacation with us this year so yeah we like to take our dogs
