Apparently speed is the solution for a successful crossing.

I noticed the warning lights didn't start flashing until the coach was right under them. Lot of good that does.

It must happen often as they have at least two different cameras pointed at that bridge at all times to record these events.

They need to suspend a log at the 11'7" mark about 100ft before the bridge.

Check out the FAQ. Looks like there are plenty of warnings before the bridge - not sure even if you stopped everyone and said "are you ok"...they would still keep going....

Yeah, and it's not like these U-Haul and Budget rental trucks don't have clearance warnings. I rented a 26' U-Haul truck this past weekend and it had 12' clearance warning stickers everywhere, even when you looked into the side view mirrors!

Maybe some discreet see through ones for me, on the mirrors.

I just found this site today. It was hard to watch a few 5ers loose their a/c's and roof vents.

What I noticed is every time that bridge is hit, the bridge structure never budges. It was built 100 yrs ago, they sure don't build them like that today.

This bridge averages one a month.. how hard would it be for the city to lower the asphalt by 1 foot? This would eliminate the police calls there and the city would actually save money..

Actually, they no longer hit the bridge. On the About page of the website, it says:
" So frequently do trucks crash into the 11-foot-8 clearance trestle, that the railroad company installed a crash beam in front of it. This massive steel I-beam bears the brunt of the impact, protecting the structure that supports this fairly busy railroad track. Believe it or not – they already had to replace the beam once!"
Here's a picture of the beam. It doesn't say when the beam was installed so maybe the unfortunate vehicles did hit the bridge in some of the videos.

Why not lead high traffic away from this situation or as Seans says lower the asphalt by 1 foot, I think there's a lot of lack and will by the authorities to solve this problem.
The cost of the write offs would have paid for lowering the asphalt.

Thanks FPM for pointing that out. I did not notice that beam.

That low bridge is rather infamous around here. The rented box trucks are not a surprise since those drivers are normally in a Civic and forget they are in a huge container. The drivers of company vehicles are likely unemployed the next day.
Technically my Greyhawk would fit but it would be with only about 2" to spare. I'd go around the block.

There is another railway underpass in Durham that has even less clearance, only 11'-4". According to the local news, another truck wedged itself under it yesterday.

I-10, Mobile, AL has their Wallace Tunnel. I forget the clearance but same story, usually at 55 MPH. Lots of warnings but tired drivers continue onward.
