Commercial RV hauling

Maybe he meant kilometres not miles?? That would be somewhat better.

I don't take it as a slam at all, I said I would answer any questions the best I could!
At the rate I am going I expect to put approx. 130, 000 miles on a year. This number seems consistent with the other people I have meet doing this. I anticipate working approx. 40 weeks of the year as it slows down substantially in the summer time. I started Nov 22 and when I return home from this trip on Jan 22 I will have just about 27,000 miles to date. Most of the other I have spoken to with Dodge trucks are all around 600k-1 million miles with varying repairs. I went in to this planning on running for atleast 2 years. My truck only had 108,000 miles when I bought it so with regular maintenance I see it lasting me for a few years. I bought the truck specifically for this purpose and it is a work truck. I enjoy what I'm doing more than any of the other jobs / careers I've held over the past 20 yrs and that is most important to me at this point.
Another plus is right now I am visiting with a buddy from college that without this job I would not be able to visit!

nope miles. I converted numbers on here since the majority here are more familiar with miles than kilometres.

I was reading about commerical RV Hauling/delivery online a few months ago. From what I gathered most loads go through 3rd party load brokers/dispatchers...not the factory directly. Is that true? If so what I also read is Jayco is one of very few, maybe the only, company that has it own transportation business that arranges delivery from the Jayco factory to dealers, shows, etc. That company was called JET (Jayco Enterprises Transportation) -- the folks online discussing JET talked about the loads being the best paying becaue no middle man was taking a cut.

I don't recall the site, it wasn't an RV site but rather a "Hot Shot" forum. There was several hot shot drivers looking to diversify when business was slow and they discussed pulling RVs.

You're in the business so if true you probably know all this, but you mentioning that you haven't had a Jayco load yet I thought I would share what I read.

I can not answer that one for you. I just looked through some of my info and I do have a pick up location and gate code for the Jayco after hours yard so they must "outsource" some of the trailers.

2013 Keystone 320VIK
can't find the specs on it right now but I will say again this smooth exterior as opposed to the aluminum siding provides better mileage while towing. This one averaged nearly 12 mpg towing at a steady 65mph for the first 250 ish miles and 63mph for the last 800 or so. This one had a manual jack which I much prefer to the electric models.
Oh and here is a pic of the "blizzard conditions" somewhere near Grand Forks, ND that I passed through on the way back to Indiana.

Hey Green...

Are you towing just TT's or 5er's also? I would assume you are losing some MPG because of the dually? What size rear end (on the truck...lol) you have? Do you get better MPG on TT's that have more of a rounded/aerodynamic front end?

Thanks,

SO far 8 TTs and 1 5er. Truck has 4.10s, thanks for clarifying......Yes the park model was the worst so far.

2013 Coachman Catalina Model 27FBCK
Less than 7000lbs, and the electric jack is back far enough to allow the tailgate to open!!! Averaged approx. 11.8 mpg at 63 mph until about 100 miles east of Fargo then it got colder and windy. Picking up another trailer on Saturday, no idea what yet.

2013 Coachman Freedom Express. Model 297RLDSLE .Nice looking trailer, I like the front nose on these models and it was a bit more expensive invoice amount than most of the similar trailers I've hauled. Poor design on the tongue section IMHO. The spare is mounted under the tongue which is nice but propane lines run directly where your snap up brackets mount. This unit also had the "spread axles" option, didn't seem to tow any different not sure what the benefits of it are.
And for some JAYCO content check out pic number 3, saw this on a shelf at the dealership in Manitoba.
SPECS
Hitch Weight 898 lbs. (407 kg)
Base Weight 6,805 lbs. (3,087 kg)
GVWR 9,800 lbs. (4,445 kg)

Exterior Length 35' 2" (10.7 m)
Exterior Height 10' 7" (3.2 m)
Exterior Width 96" (2.4 m)

2013 Keystone Laredo Model 335TG . I love hauling 5ers over bumper pulls anyday. The loss of bed space is made up by the ease of towing IMHO. This trailer hauled like a dream for 10.000 lbs. Delivering this one tomorrow and then 2 more to deliver over the next 1.5 weeks.

Shipping Weight Lbs - 10559
Carrying Capacity (lbs) - 2441
Hitch (lbs) - 1935
Length - 37' 8''
Height - 12' 7''
Tire Size - ST235/80R16E

2013 Coachman Catalina 39FKDS. These park models do not make for an enjoyable towing experience. Towed this up to Thunder Bay, Ontario via Wisconsin and Minnesota and saw mpgs down as low as 8
40' 9" in length and shipping weight was around 9400 lbs IIRC

Then I went back and picked up a 2013 Coachman Freedom Express 302FKV. This is the second Freedom Express I've towed and they are a nice looking trailer. This was a V nose and towed really well. At 55 MPH it delivered the best MPGs I've ever seen. At 63 MPH it was about the same as every other bumper pull. Forgot to get a pic of it hooked up to my truck.

Hitch Weight 789 lbs. (358 kg)
Base Weight 6,766 lbs. (3,069 kg)
Exterior Length 34' 9" (10.6 m)
Exterior Height 10' 9" (3.3 m)
Exterior Width 96" (2.4 m)
