Direct T.V. and the Genie

Ok, I have posted about this in the past and I am getting close, thinging about going with direct tv. But the question I have does anyone have this service, the reason I ask is because I can not get a answer from the reps that are trying to sell it to me. My question is if I go with this can I use a receiver in one of the bed rooms in my trailer, or do I have to use the Genie. This just seems to blow the reps away when I ask this question they can tell me about all the money I am going to save with direct tv but when it comes to the technical questions I loose them. I had one guy tell me that I had to order the travel package on top of the package I order for the house. Can anyone shed some light on how it will work.

Thanks.

I have been using DirecTV for years in my camper. I use one of the receivers from my bedroom in my trailer. Be careful. DO NOT tell DirecTV you are using it in a camper. They will want you to have a separate subscription for that.

I had a bedroom "spare" reciever in my race car trailer from Bristol, TN, St. Louis, Sacramaneto, Vegas, etc. It always worked fine EXCEPT I would lose my Dallas locals once I got out of town. That was back 2001-2004. Things may have changed a bit but I work with another race team now with Direct TV and seems to work the same. We have to search for the national locals CBSE/W, NBCE/W (Ch 390-399) to watch a network show. HBO, ESPN, all that stuff works fine everywhere. I have direct in my camp trailer but haven't been too far out of Dallas yet with it. I also carry rabbit ears and swap between the two. My direct dish isn't HD, so if I am wanting locals currently I switch to rabbit ears, and gain HD when I do.

A Genie - an HR-34 - is a server with five tuners. It can work with DirecTV receivers and with a new box, a C-31 client. The DirecTv receivers in such a system could be used on their own, as in an RV. But any C-31 clients have to be used with an HR-34 as the C-31 does not have a built in tuner.

You wouldn't need to take the Genie receiver unless you wanted to watch programs that you had DVR'd. Any Directv receiver in from your house would work in your RV.

My local Directv company encouraged me to take Directv on the road with me. They even sold me the antenna. As long as you aren't calling Directv to change your local channel setups each time you relocate when on the road, the company should not attempt to charge you for an additional account or assess you a fee for redoing your local channels. But then reading some of these replies, I guess it depends on who you talk to.

So RVhiker, does that mean I can use the Genie in my trailer, I had direct tv 8 to 10 years ago back when you had to buy the set up. And the new stuff looks nothing like what I had in the past. That is why I am confused on how it would work. And like I said talking to the rep is like talking to my 8 year niece, if you want to know how much you are going to save or how great 1080p is he is all in. But you through one technical question at him and he starts back peddling. Being in the service industry my self I could care less about the bells and whistles I just want to know how it works. But back to my question if I understand you correctly the HR-34 with the five tuners I could use that and one of the C-31's and I should be good. Would you agree with that. I am going back this afternoon to my local bestbuy and seeing if there is someone else I might be able to talk to, and we will see.
Thanks,
