Epic journey or What brakes.

We are finally in Parker Az and it's HOT. We left North Idaho on the 19th and drove to Dillon Montana for the first night. Dillon KOA is a very nice park. From Dillon we headed South to Idaho Falls and Bish's RV. We had some minor warranty repairs and were to have a cargo rack installed. Well the cargo rack was a few weeks out and wasn't there. The parts lady called and checked where it was and it wasn't. A word to the wise here. Order a rack when you order a trailer. They cost a LOT more after the fact. I mentioned to the service manager that the brakes were not working very well and he had the mechanic check them out. What he found is that 3 of the 4 were covered with wheel bearing grease.

It was late in the afternoon so they buttoned up the trailer and set it up for us in a guest area so they could work on it the next day.

The next day they still didn't have approval from Jayco to do the brakes. We had them fix them and agreed to pay for the job so we could be on our way. No decision from Jayco so we paid and continued South.

It seems that either someone at Dexter or Jayco was overzealous with a grease gun. I anticipate that it may be a while before we are reimbursed for the brake job. It seems that everything was covered with grease so they replaced all 4 backing plates, electrics, shoes and all. The cost was $1127. I will be calling Bish's next week and possibly Jayco customer service.

Our trailer was new in Feb 11 and only had 1600 miles on it when we took it in. I am not a believer in the Dexter lubing system and didn't pump any grease into it. I only repack bearings by hand and usually around 10k miles. Time will tell if they (Jayco) do the right thing. I'll keep you posted on any progress or lack of progress.

I really want to thank Bish's RV for their professional attitude and work. They really went out of their way to make us comfortable in Camp Bish and they always do quality work.

Clutch, I guess the rear seals were compromised then if that much grease was present. Wow, they must have pumped the heck out of that grease gun, or the seals were not installed correctly. The grease should spill out the front which is open like with bearing buddies when you use too much. I`ve used the bearing buddies for decades on boat trailers that are immersed in salt water with great success, never had a bearing go bad on me yet. I realize the Dexter EZlube system is somewhat different from them. I sure hope Jayco and/or Dexter takes care of you on this one.

Lee, I have ablolutely no faith in that ez lube system. We will have to wait until next week to see what comes from the warranty claim. The only thing I would ever pump grease into is my boat trailer. It dosen't have brakes so any grease will just leak out on the wheel.

I hope the warranty claim goes through without incident as well. If Bish's RV took pics that should help the claim through the system.

Sounds like Jayco will have to get reimbursed from Dexter, because I believe the axles come to Jayco fully assembled (less wheels/tires) and I would be surprised if Jayco adds grease after the fact.

Bob, I believe you are right. The axles are put on the frame and are not a Jayco item. Perhaps that is why they couldn't get an immediate OK to fix it under waranty.

Either way it's on Jayco's dime to you, and Dexter shouldn't be a road block in processing your warranty service claim.

I am hopeing that it is on someone's dime besides mine. I sure didn't do anything to cause it.

Update. We called Bish's RV today and they informed us that the warranty claim was accepted by Jayco. It has turned out well for us. Thank you Jayco and Bish's RV.

A very good resolution the the problem. We are happy.

The only down side is that we will have to pay off the credit card bill to avoid any intrest charges. They said we will get the money we paid within 60 days.

I wish Bish's RV had a shop in our area. Sounds like they take care of their customers.

Ernie, we are fortunate that we found them on the computer. We will be stopping in there again in April or May to get the cargo rack installed. If we ever replace this trailer I know where we will be shoping. Heck, I would even buy a Keystone from them because I know that things will be fixed right.:hihi:
