we usually bring what I call "kindling boxes" with us. 1-3, depending on trip. Each is a cardboard box, usually from something I've bought via Amazon; and I put scrunched up newspaper in the bottom. I then gather dry kindling from our ranch (there is always a good supply) to fill the box. I also pack some small oak/cedar logs from the ranch; and we're usually good to go. When we get to the campsite, I take the box out and put it in the fire ring; cut a small square in the side to expose the newspaper, and light it. Voila, instant fire. Then, after we've used the firewood we brought with us, we buy or scrounge other wood in the area. That can be the tricky part, of course. But, there's nothing like pulling into a site, getting set up, and having a fire going in 15 minutes or so!
