First day of winter Thursday!!!!

I love the first day of winter because that means the days are steadily getting longer and spring is coming!!!!!! Can't wait to start planning camping trips. I have to wait until my Wifey gets her class schedule. She is taking 3 classes to renew her teaching certificate to hopefully land a K-2 teaching position next fall.

Because of Christmas or because of snow? We are having a whiteout blizzard in Wyoming on the first day of winter. I Will need to go out and feed hay to the calves this morning. Hard for them to get down to the hay in the field in this weather.

Just made June reservations and have had one of the August outings made for 3 weeks.

8 more to go for next year.

Michigan used to be beautiful back in the 40s and 50s. Lake Michigan even had clear water. Trouble was there weren't any jobs then or now. I am originally from Muskegon

I don't know if I should start making plans for the summer or not. I think the Myan calander runs out and I don't want to waste my time if we all won't be here any more.

Common sense tells me to max out the credit cards and empty the bank accounts. That is the little voice I hear that says use it or loose it. Another little voice says that all the other dooms day nut cases have been wrong and we just might make it through the comming year. Decisions decisions - - -.

All of ours are in the state.

With a group we are looking at Mitchell SP, Pinckney RA, Brighton RA, Tawas Point SP, North Higgins SP, Aloha SP, Indian Lake SP, Munising County Park, Aune Osborn Soo, and not sure about September or October.

You would be welcome to join us.

Remember Y2K ? Some people thought everything was going to come crashing down because computers would have a hard time dealing with the number '00' in the date. Home generator sales soared, people stocked up on food, firewood, gasoline. They emptied thier bank accounts, thought the stock market was doomed. Well January 1, 2000 came and went with nary a glitch.

BTW, the Mayan calender doesn't run out until December 21, 2012 so you've got plenty time to get your summer camping in .

dalenoel,

I appreciate the invite with your group, and will keep it in mind because my summer 2012 plans are still up in the air. I've camped at half of the CG's you listed over the years, and UP CG's have always been worth the drive....., hope you get a west-end water front site at Munising Tourist Park!

Tawas Point SP is a favorite, nephew and I bicycled the area last summer. One nice local SP I camp at when I don't want to travel far is Pontiac Lake SP.

Can't beat Michigan for camping! http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthread.php?t=2514

I celebrated Thursday's "Winter Solstice" checking the mouse traps in my TT, and snagged one (first one in a number of years).

Bob

Rustic Eagle,

At Munising we usually, and already reserved, the sites in the open just east of the old restrooms. Sites are just huge plus some. With 4 of us it works since we can circle the wagons. There are 21 waterfalls that we want to repeat from a trip 3 years ago around Lake Superior with most of the same group.

I was the host in 2010 for a month at Tawas and do love the area. Bikes are the best there so you can to into Marions for ice cream and Pizza at G's.

Indian Lake is for Fayette reconstruction, North Higgins is to canoe the Au Sable, while at Aloha we just vegetate. Stuck the Soo in so we can get laundry done as it is the third campground on a tour of the UP. Campground isn't much but we can walk to town.

Never been to Mitchell but there are a couple Disc Golf Courses close.

Invitation is always there and we normally just let everyone do their own thing. DW doesn't get up til 9 or so while some of us are up at 5. One couple always swims and some can't walk to the lake. A good group of 3 regulars, one part time, and one new this year.

Haven't had mice at this house but I think I'll go out and check today just to be sure.

Second day of Winter and I`ve been out working in the yard in a tee shirt. Easy on the heating bills. Would be great camping weather too.

Well, ya just about live up in the Arctic Circle there in the frozen tundra of Mi. ! I`ve never even had to Winterize the chicken coop yet, still using my patented porcelain automatic watering system. Yep, that`s the top of a toilet for a reservoir.

Lee,

Your not fooling anyone, I know that is an outside "free-air" toilet..., you just cropped the porcelain commode at the bottom end of the plastic pipe out of the photo
