Flashlights

Lets talk flashlights. I believe they are a necessary and important "tool" for camping. I have to admit I like collecting gadgets. Flashlights are one of the "tools" I enjoy collecting. When camping as soon as the sun goes down I try to make sure to have one on me at all times. I just purchased a Nebo Redline and so far love it. What brand/models does everyone else use?

We have several, but these two may be a little different than the typical 'flashlight':


-Motorola Walkie-talkie with the little flashlight on the bottom (pics 1-3)
-Coleman Head lamp - adjustable angle and three different intensities (pic 4)

I just love cap or headlights for camping and working on things. You do not have to hold a flashlight so your hands are freed up to do the job. Really nice for setting up tents in the dark. (Yep, some of us still use tents at times)

Agreed i have a Coast headband light i keep in my truck.

I like those crank up LED flashlights. No need for batteries and plenty of light.

My favorite flashlight is this one. It is very, very bright; uses two cheap "C" cells; doesn't cost much; fits in a back pocket; the batteries last almost forever.

My favorites are the little three AAA LED flashlights that one can get cheap at Harbor Freight. I keep one in my purse, one on my desk, one by my bed, one in my carry on bag, and two in my little truck. They give enough light for most purposes, are small and light, and I can put rechargeable Sanyo Eneloop batteries in them that will hold roughly 80% of their charge for a year and not leak if they do run down. Although the el cheapo Chinese batteries that come with them last for a surprisingly long time, I'm not the kind of person who will remember to check them to make sure they are ok and not leaking so I just chuck them when I get them and put in the Eneloops. It takes only a few seconds to replace batteries when I eventually need them and I always carry spares. I have other flashlights knocking about somewhere but I never use them anymore.

I'm not really a fan of flashlights while camping but I do keep an assortment of small LED flashlights around for the DW and DS.

For work though, I carry a Magcharger rechargeble. Loads of light and solid enough to be used as a weapon. I just ordered a TerraLux LED upgrade kit for it that's worth about 600 lumens. Can't wait to see how it works out.

I'm into flashlights as well. The best I found were cheap LED flashlights that you order online directly from HK. You need to purchase rechargeable batteries and a charger but there is nothing brighter for the price. http://www.manafont.com/product_info...0-black-p-7639 Small, lightweight and lots of lumens! Plus you can get adaptors for your handlebars if you want to ride your bike at night like I do.

Harbor Freight, 9 LED, (coupon) freebie with any purchase. Most flashlights are too bright for me, so this basic one is more than enough for me. I'd love something much smaller (1 LED), completely waterproof, running on a single AAA battery. Recommendations?

Accumulated through the years, I have six Maglights. 4 of them are three cell and 2 are four cell. Makes a good weapon too.

I too have an extensive collection of lights. Several maglights of varying size (one AA model converted to LED), a few 'el cheapos' rolling around, a Stanly tripod LED thingy, one of those million-candlepower 6v eye-searing mega lights, and my new Streamlight TRL2s weapon light...which by size and intensity, blows everything else away.
Out of all those, the AA maglight with the LED conversion is the one I use most.

I found the headlight band great for reading in bed at night - hands free to hold book - direct light aimed at book - DH can sleep without overhead light in his face. It's a win win win situation,
