Ethanol (10%) at 3.05 this morning here in the Hawkeye state. Yes the state does subsidize ethanol. the farmers here appreciate your support.

From the looks of that chart it would really suck to live in California, N Carolina, or Washington.

Looks like we`re going to be paying through the nose for fuel this Summer. The media is forecasting record high prices. It hurts the bottomline for me in my business, as well as making RV trips more expensive! Not good.

Maybe somebody should take politics out of the debate on the Keystone pipeline. We have lots of oil that we can send south and eventually we can hopefully have cheaper fuel costs in North America. We don't need Middle East oil and the threats that go along with it.

Common sense and politics don't jibe. Instead, Canada will sell the oil to China and we'll be in an even more precarious position. Then again, with huge oil reserves right here in the USA, why aren't we tapping them? Seriously, does it make any sense to fund countries that actively work towards our destruction?!?!

I took this pic while driving through Santa Barbara, Cali last week... $4.19 unleaded AM/PM had gas for about $3.68 down the road though.

We are approaching $3.50 and by Summer, we will probably be there or worse. It isn't going to affect my business, because I simply increase my trip charge to cover the additional costs. My personal driving is another matter. I have reservations for July in Grand Teton, but after figuring close to $1000 just for gas for a round trip, and that isn't accounting for day trips and going to Yellowstone, I'll probably let that one go. Meanwhile, that money can be split up into several long weekend trips closer to home, and to be quite honest, I enjoy the Arkansas State Parks as much as the National Parks and everything is a one day drive or less.

Bob,

If you can suggest some of Arkansas parks that are your favorites, please do. Thanks

We have checked out most of them in the Hot Springs area. We've stayed at Lake Cathering twice and loved it. We're going back there for Halloween week. Lake Quachita is also impressive and we're going there in July along with Lake Dardanelle. We did day trips to checl out others, and we did not see one we didn't like, but by far, Lake Catherine is our favorite. With you being in Houston, you have an easy shot up 59 to Texarkana to catch I30. From Texarkana, Lake Catherine and Lake Quachita are about the same driving distance, from Austin, about 8.5 hours so it's an easy drive for a long weekend. We'll probably be spending a lot of time up there. Now, I just need to get a trailer hitch put on the wife's Highlander so she can pull my fishing boat up there. LOL
All of the Arkansas parks are pristine, entrance is free, and even out of state seniors get a discount on RV sites. A deal like that is really hard to beat.

Excellent info, Bob and your plan for the Highlander speaks volumes to the notion that you are a highly intelligent and extremely resourceful man! :hihi:

Today Feb 27, 2012 in Santa Barbara, Buellton, and Santa Maria Calif...

$4.29 - $4.51

You can still find some stations for a *little* less if you do "gas buddy" and are willing to drive a little further to get the lower price.

I saw on FoxNews that in other parts of the country is up to $1 less per gallon. *WUT*! If it wasn't for the fact that our kids/grandkids living close to us, we would move to another state in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we are the Grandma/Papa that need 'grandkid' fixes every few days so we are stuck in Cali *sigh*.

It's officially official now. We will definitely camp this summer in our 'region' of the country and plan to spend half of the extra $$ saved by not going back east again booked on a (realllly) discounted rate for a non-camping vacation in June!

We have also cancelled a Summer trip to Grand Teton and have already arranged for a couple of nice trips closer to home. Arkansas may become my new camping home.

Just paid $3.76 a gal. for regular today in central PA. I thought it was bad til I looked on here and saw what you all are paying. Thanks for taking a little bit of the sting out of my wallet. (No disrespect intended with this post)

Amen and Amen! We have friends in the oil business and natural gas is a by-product of oil production. We have so much of it that sometimes they just burn it off and don't bother to store and sell it. We used to have an alternative fuel vehicle (the great debacle of AZ) that ran on propane. Other than a supply issue, there is no reason that the cost of propane is as high as it is. If we tried to move to more of a propane-based vehicle, we might have a fighting chance in the future. We have cousins who have natural gas fields on their ranch and, although they don't have the mineral rights (go figure), they get to fill up for free. So they've converted all their vehicles to natural gas + gasoline. Problem comes when they have to leave OK because there's not an abundant source for filling up their cars. But it's so abundant here in the US that it's a shame we can't use it as a source for fuel. It doesn't make sense that we pour so much in solar energy when the technology isn't there yet to make it terribly viable, useful or affordable. It would be great if it was. But until then....

We are rationing our daily trips but we take monthly short camping trips a max of 3 hours away and I won't hold back on those. We live for this!

Today gas here in Phoenix at Costco is $3.75/gal and at the gas bandits is over $4/gallon. This is unacceptable and the answer to "buy smaller cars" doesn't help those of us towing trailers. Time for "change!"

Warmly, Kim
